Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Middle of the week, middle of the day pleasantly surprised to be able to just walk in. The church is as beautiful as the many churches on the island, but what struck me as unique to this church were the many beautiful fresh and exotic flower arrangements. I had never seen anything like that especially in a small village.

Church of São Sebastião is located in the charming village of São Sebastião.
It is oldest church on the island. Like almost all buildings it is built from black volcanic rock with some coating, take a step inside where you’ll find the walls adorned with late medieval frescoes.

Really cool church with a lot of history. The coolest part are the really old frescoes on display along the walls of the church.

It is another simple church on a nice village. If you are near take some time to visit it. Also take a look at the Imperio on the other side of the street.

Located in a very quiet village, far away from the tourists. Fascinating discovery of frescoes under a thick layer of concrete and restoration of these images. Recommended if you are in the area.

In 1980 the island had an earthquake that measure 7.6. 75% of the homes on the island were damaged or destroyed. The church of St. Sebastian was the only church left unscathed by the earthquake thus earning it the title "The Miracle Church". They also have discovered fresco paintings on the walls and are working at restoring them. Well worth a visit.

This church is a must visit place, just off the main square, easy to find. The interior decoration of the main alter is so beautiful and the side alters also deserve a mention as they too are outstanding. Part of the church was destroyed in recent earthquake and there remains in side alter the original ceiling. It must have been devastating for the community to see this beautilful building damaged and they have worked hard to restore it. The guide is very knowledgable on all aspects of the history and his English is excellent. Definitely worth a visit. Very highly recommended

A very historical church with old wall paintings - beautiful both from the inside and outside. Located in the village of Sao Sebastiao where also a walking trail along the coast and passing around some old fortresses starts.

Another church with so much history! Terceira has a church in every corner. Each one more beautiful then the other. Want some spiritual guidance? go to Terceira. This church in particular was one of the first built on the Island. A must visit.
