We ventured out to see the elk at Cataloochee Valley not realizing how difficult it was to drive back to this area in North Carolina. Expect to spend more than a half hour driving on one lane gravel roads that wind and twist. It could...More

We took a ride in our Jeep from Pigeon Forge to Cataloochee. Intentionally took the scenic route out of Cosby, Tn. Via route 32. Nice trip through the mountain and we saw a black bear along the road. Plenty of elk and turkey sightings in...More

We've been to Cataloochee Valley several times and enjoy it more than the time before. With bountiful wildlife and old time buildings, it is worth the drive to spend the day. Lots of good hiking, areas to relax and enjoy the surroundings and be on...More

We went at 6 in the evening and saw many elk. It took about 30 minutes to get up the skinny curvy road, but it was worth it. Park rangers are very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a must see!!

Awesome as always. Elk roaming I'm more interested in the aquatic animals myself. Always worth the visit.

Fantastic Group site. We stayed in g03 with 10 of us. We had a tarp city set up and the huge pads easily accommodated our 10*20 family tent, camp kitchen, and 4 other tens. It was a rainy trip that was still wonderful. Close to...More

The road is a bit of an accident waiting to happen. But, once we arrived to the valley the trip was well worth it. I would suggest going during the week to avoid an extra traffic on the road as it is an old logging...More

I don't remember seeing any when we were there. However, most of the parks have picnic areas so we could have just missed it.
