The road to get here is very narrow and curvy. It is worth it to hear the history of the area and know that went on there is worth it. There are still some things there from way back.

Near Waynesville, NC a journey into the past when you visit Cataloochee Valley. This area was a remote farming village until the US Park Service took over the land in the 1930’s. Many buildings remain as they were. Now they have re-introduced elk to the...More

The Cataloochee Valley in the Great Smoky Mountains is truly nature at its best. Beware that the road to get there is best traveled in an SUV at a slow pace . The winding road is well worth the drive to get there as the...More

Stopped here while traveling from Gatlinburg to Cherokee and loved the scenery. The old buildings were pretty cool. The best part of my visit was the elk out in the valley. I can highly recommend this stop in you are in the area.

We went on October 18 - middle of the month. The Rut evidently lasts through the month of October, we were told. The Elk of course do not "announce" that the rut is "over", but the Rangers told us that in late October they simply...More

I found this location when hunting for locations in the Smokey's where one might see elk, out of curiosity. I have seen them in Kentucky in one of the state parks, which hosted an annual elk viewing. But in another park that advertised that possibility,...More
