We drove for a couple of hours in anticipation, only to find that the museum is no longer there. There is a fine bike shop with a really friendly dog and an excellent tea room so all was not lost.

As in the title, the cycle museum is now a training centre for estate staff.. There are still one or two interesting mountain bikes hanging around at Rik's Bike Shed and a replica of Macmillans original in the reception area if it is open.

Great exhibition and history of the bicycle, from the earliest to the very latest. Who needs to read a book on biking history when you can see the real thing ?

From a position of little interest I moved up to being fascinated. Well worth a visit. As is Drumlanrig Castle.

This museum is really an add-on to the Drumlanrig estate, which is spectacular by any measure. Essentially the museum is a barn with bicycles put up on the walls. Even if there are some articles of interest, it can be seen in 10 minutes. As...More

We arrived at the museum by accident, having hoped to visit the nearby adventure playground with the kids but the rain came down and we looked for somewhere under cover. The museum is housed in one room, with accompanying shop. Initially overwhelmed by the number...More

The small Scottish Cycle Museum has a fitting home at Drumlanrig. It was from Dumfries that Kirkpatrick Macmillan set out on the first long distance pedal powered bicycle ride (to Glasgow where he ran over a small child). The museum occupies one of a number...More
