About
Sand Dune Safaris offers a number of Adventure Tours in one of their purpose built 4WD vehicles on the magnificent Stockton Sand Dunes! Tours are taken across the magnificent Sand Dunes (the largest moving sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere), and are safe and informative. Our most popular adventure is our Sandboarding Safari. Our Sandboarding area is right in the heart of the dunes, so you can also enjoy the spectacular views and scenery. Here we also provide a shaded picnic area with tables and chairs, feel free to bring some snacks and drinks. You can spend as much time as you like! We are unique in that we offer both sit down and stand up Sandboarding, with the option of strapped boards. You can try one or both! It’s a simple activity that is relatively easy to learn compared to other stand up sports such as snowboarding. Fun for all ages and abilities!

Great experience, friendly and knowledgeable owners.. Fun day out.. It was a bit wet so thought it might be called off but all went ahead and was even better when it's damp as you go faster.

We had a fantastic experience. They called us back right after I left a voice mail enquiring about a tour the next day. In the morning, we were greeted by a lovely young lady who looked after us and reminded us to go to the bathroom, then driven to the dunes by a young man with fantastic customer service skills. The dunes were beautiful and we felt like we were somewhere else in the world... it was a hot day and the dunes are a fun yet exhausting activity. We’ve surfed for about 45 mins with our 3 little kids (7 and 3). On our way back the owner Ana drove us back to the carpark and she was extremely patient with our girls asking many many questions. A fantastic experience and I truly recommend their family business. Thank you.

A really fun way to experience the incredible Worimi lands...Sand Dunes Safaris really makes it very easy and you are well looked after by the drivers, instructors and check in staff. Recommend getting there early for 9am kick off to get a good session in before it gets too hot in the middle of the day in the summer months. Our teen boys loved it but my husband and I also had fine sliding and laughing. Definitely want to do it all again

Hi Suzanne Thank you for taking the time to write us such a nice review! We really appreciate it. Glad to hear the whole family had stacks of fun. Yes definitely best to get in as early as possible on those hot days. Thanks again and looking forwards to seeing you on the dunes again! Cheers Ana & Andrew

Shame I can't give zero for the behaviour and lack of professionalism from a staff member with nametag 'Andrew' who appears to be the owner!

While waiting to discuss a booking we witnessed him swear at, threaten to throw things at, and generally abuse a young staff member in front of large crowds of Easter holiday goers.

Disgusting behaviour and no way to treat others. He then had a second attempt at belittling her in front of his next group of paying customers.

Do yourself a favour and go with one of the other operators for a sandboarding trip and don't support this so called 'friendly' family run business

Friendly team and great experience. They also sold water at $1 per bottle which was well appreciated. We had already brought a bottle each with us but ended up needing 2. I would recommend that people try it. Also this group offered standup boards as well as sit down ones. They also had plenty of vehicles ferrying people from the car park to the site which was good.

On the flip side, the effort required to climb back up the hill is significant and it would be great if they were able to ferry people back up somehow.

Also, when a Chinese lady had her 3? year old son video her from the bottom, because she could not stop and the kid did not get out of the way, she hit him. The staff were unaware until I told them and then whilst they had a first aid kit were not knowledgeable on what to do and also had great difficulty in assisting her. She could not easily get her kid back to the top and he had had his mum run the board straight into his shins..

One of my most favourite experiences during my trip to Port Stephens. Not only did we enjoy sand boarding for the first time, however the team ensured that we not only had fun but we were also given a little bit of a scenic tour on the way back, with the opportunity to take some great pictures around the beautiful Sand dunes and told some interesting facts.
You can tell these guys love what they do and want to give you a great experience.
Definitely recommend!

We tried the unlimited sandboarding over the long weekend.
Firstly make sure you allow at least 30 minutes to park your car: everything was full and they ended up closing the roads so you will have to park far away and walk to the meeting point, it was insane and we got late to our pick up.
Second sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen: on the dunes it is significantly hotter than on the beach so you will need to have full sunblock, hat and water (they sell it at the dunes if you need it).
Sandboarding was fun although if you’re looking for an adrenaline kick you probably won’t get it... the boards are not designed to slide fast so it’s quite safe for kids but adults may get over it pretty quick... plus each time you go down you will have to walk all the way up again and that is pretty tiring after a few times.
Certainly an activity recommended for families and overseas tourists.

Absolutely loved the sand boarding with my family of 5 and especially liked being able to stand up on the boards and stay as long as we liked.
It would have been nice if the young instructors were more interactive with their instructions and maybe giving some tips throughout the day.
Will definitely come back again.

Set the right expectation from the start with staff member Ana who was super helpful. Went on their 4WD into the dunes with brilliant convo with our guide Andrew who is knowledgeable and friendly.
Highlight is sand boarding. Take friends or the family. Can’t wait to it it again.

Had a great few hours at the sand dunes with the family.
Sand dune safari are a wonderful family business who provide a very personal service. They were friendly, informative and very helpful. The drive to the dunes was an adventure in itself! We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
Highly recommended.
