Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our family had a fantastic time! The tour guide was informative and interactive we really enjoyed the experience. They gave our kiddos (9 and 5) a certificate for sand boarding which was cute! They also took us to the beach which was clear and gorgeous on a sunny day. I recommend wearing socks and sneakers because the sand is very hot to stand on!

Fun adventure. The 4WD’ing itself is a heap of fun bumping around the sand dunes :) We went searching for pippi’s and then safely watched them burrow back into the sand. Lastly we trekked up to the top of the sand dunes and had heaps of fun sand boarding down!! Great views from the top. Really fun experience. There are also some longer runs available for those who dare. Tour guide was nice and informative. A highly recommended activity for those visiting the Port Stephens area.

In case you do not know, the dunes are the largest continuous mobile sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere. So, you won't want to miss this when you visit Port Stephens.

You have plenty to choose to do in this place: sand boarding, camel riding, 4WD experience, tour to Tin City and/or the Sygna wreck and other historical sites.

Many years ago before my child was born, I took the 4WD tour to Tin City, the Sygna wreck and sand-boarding, impressive!

My last trip on January 2015, I chose Port Stephens 4WD (portstephens4wd) Tour to do sand boarding and went straight to Anna Bay to swim and surf after. My child loved this day most in our trip in Port Stephens.

Here I would like to recommend Port Stephens 4WD Tour if you do not have a 4WD. They are very professional here and they could give you a discount on price if you call them. The good part was, we could freely stay on sand boarding as long as we liked and just took their 4WD run every 30 mins return back to Anna Bay. Just check the time table from them for the earliest and the last schedule of the day.

We did sand boarding on 5 Jan 2018 with Port Stephens 4 WD and it was the worst experience. The sand dunes they take you too hardly have any depth and slope. We struggled to push ourselves down the slope. Their service and hospitality is great but their choice of dune is hopeless.

Hi Vishal M Thank you for your feedback of our sand dune and we appreciate the feedback on our service and hospitality, I shall pass this onto our staff. Due to being a National Park, we are limited to where we can and can't go for our dune selection. Unfortunately our dune at this particular time wasn't performing at its best, however I'm pleased to say that after strong winds the dune has become much better. I hope to see you out on the dunes again soon with us :) Kind regards Sean

We recently visited Anna Bay to take photos of the sand dunes and whilst there, do a bit of sand boarding.

So we booked our tickets and hopped in for the ultimate adventure ride with Frank, who was incrediblly knowledgeable of the area and super helpful in guiding us to where we needed to go and get the best photos.

Thanks for being our driver and guide Frank, you are awesome.

A great way to entertain the whole family from young to old. There were 2 sized sand dunes to choose from, making it a perfect day from the young 2 year old right up to the seniors who also seemed to have a ball.

If you're looking for something to do and it's not warm enough for the beach then this is the perfect activity, particularly as this isn't ideal for hot days. You also get to decided on how long you want to stay.

The staff are fantastic and even give you water to keep you hydrated, there's also a shade cover for when you want to rest.

A great way to entertain the whole family from toddlers to grandparents and be warned, you'll end up with sand everywhere!!

Went with a company named Port Stephens 4WD, 2 adults and 9 year old , 4 year old and a pram. When we got there the driver explained and showed us everything we needed to know and the kids went off! There was a smaller sand dune for the four year old and right next to it there was a really massive one for adults and nine year old!
The company even left bottled water with us which was excellent. The sand dunes are gorgeous and is really worth going there. Not only did the kids have a blast me and my partner had a blast!! The sand dunes blows lots of sand when it is windy so bring swimming goggles if you have some or sunnys (sounded funny when my son suggested we pack it, but when we got there we wished we did) The two downfalls were after yu went down on the board you the big hill you had to go back up! and also there are no toilets in sight so would suggest to go before you get on the bus.
The bus driver was fantastic! He helped me lots with the pram, was very kind and thoughtfull and I thought going with a baby was going to be a nightmare, but the company was so helpfull and made it a good time.
We only lasted two hours there as the big walk up the hills really took it out of us!

No frills Sandboarding experience. Nothing provided other than a board and transport to a Dune. No shade offered ('due to Covid') although the operator next to us (Sand Dune Safaris) offered their clients shade tents, chairs, water and a variety of sandboards. At this price its not recommended

Hi Kenny Thank you for taking the time to review your experience in Port Stephens :) I'm not sure if you have the right operator as we provide a fully guided 1hr 15mins experience including a pipi catch and release on the dunes and Sandboarding in the dunes. Our tour guide and 4WD stay with you the entire time so you aren't just dropped off on the dune like other providers. We provide the 4WD with air conditoning running for shade, complimentary water on arrival :) Please enjoy your stay in Port Stephens when you return :)
