Nice walk to a view of Wilpena Pound
Jan. 2021 • Couples
From Wilpena Pound Resort and Campground, it was a nice walk on a flat path through the tranquil forest to get to Hills Homestead, and then a walk up an inclined path to the Wangara Lookout. There are 2 lookouts, both with a good view of Wilpena Pound. The lower one is a shorter climb to get to, and the higher one for those feeling fit enough to climb further has a broader view. It’s approximately a 3 hour walk return.

Must do walk when visiting the pound
Oct. 2020
A relatively easy must do walk to get a good taste and breadth of what Wilpena Pound has to offer. Great views and a real contrast in scenary as you move through the Gap and into the Pound. An easy 7.5km return over 2-2.5 hours and plenty of places to stop and rest as you climb the last hill to the lookout...if you need it !!

Stunning!

You need to see it in person to appreciate the absolute beauty and yet ruggedness of our outback. This lookout really does capture it all. Breathtaking.

A lovely view across this extraordinary site.

One of the shorter walks at Wilpena, it is an easy walk with the exception of the last sections where less fit people may need to pause on the short climb. The view is worth the effort, and I would recommend this hike for visitors with limited time. If you are lucky, you might spot a kangaroo or two.

The must do walk in Wilpena Pound
Aug. 2019 • Couples
The 3.1 km into the Hills Homestead is a easy walk where you are rewarded with a photo opportunity at each bend in the trail. Then you walk up the rock trail about 700 m which is a bit of a climb in places. There are two lookout platforms the first about half way up.
Need to get up there to see the view of inside the pound. I’m 72 years old and managed to get up to the top.

Awesome Incredible Scenery

Did the walk from the resort around 8km return trip. First 3km easy walk along much of the river passing many beautiful old river gum trees. You come out at the old homestead then an 800m walk to the top, pretty steep the final 400m the most challenging but not too difficult, the view from the top was the reward looking right across the Pound, well worth the effort.

Lovely Stroll
Jul. 2019 • Family
The walk to Wangarra Lookout from Wilpena Resort is flat, smooth and scenic for the 3km to the homestead. suitable for all ages including prams. There is also a shuttle bus all the way for those who need it, but the walk itself is preferable. Once at the homestead, there is a 300 metre moderately steep walk to the lower lookout and then another harder 400 metres to the higher lookout. Both have great views and are worth doing. The whole return trip is around 2.5 hours and is a lovely way to experience the pound.

A pleasant view
Jul. 2019 • Couples
This is a relatively easy walk from the Wilpena information area along a gully which is mostly flat and shaded. Don't be tempted to take the high road from the shuttle turnaround, it is exposed with no shade...stick to the gully. The last few hundred metres up to the lookout is steepish but achievable by anyone with average fitness. I found the view from the top a little bit under-whelming. It is a pleasant view but by no means spectacular.

A Great Ground Level Look at the Pound
Oct. 2018 • Couples
Having missed our flight due to high winds we opted for the walk up to the lookout and were richly rewarded. It is a fairly easy grade walk with a few steeper bits towards the end. You get to see the original Hills Homestead and lots of wildlife along the way, emus, kangaroos ,lizards & varied birdlife ! The actual lookout gives you a fair idea of the Pound but an overfly would be the perfect look ! A lovely walk and a great part of the Flinders Ranges NP to explore !

Accompanied by some kangaroos we enjoyed our evening and early morning walks. Striking views seem to be 360. We found the terrain easy . Took a lot of pictures.
