100% authenticity!

I thought I knew almost everything about Crete and nothing will surprise me anymore. But when we got to Andreas' place, it felt like we landed on another planet! In the middle of nowhere, high in the mountains (1350m!), in beautiful nature we experienced something incredible! Our 4 years old son was full of excitement, especially when he had a chance to feed baby goats and ride the lovely donkey Kiriakos. Andreas is a living legend, an amazing example of true Cretan hospitality and a father worth of admiration (his talented children help him with everything). I was so happy to be a part of those episodes, filled with well kept family traditions, love towards nature and animals, passion about cooking and authentic enthusiasm expressed towards curious guests! This place make you fall in love with Crete forever! Will highly recommend to everyone who is seeking authentic experiences and respects traditions, loves nature and home made food!
Thank you very much, Andreas & the team! Thank you, Dimitris (the organizer & the driver)! Thank you, Christiana - the super guide!

A super alternative activity for children and not only

We went there by mistake since we never heard about it before and we were in the region. So we came across a group of people who chose to spend their day at this special place. To make it short, we loved it as much as they did!! Not only because the place is exquisite, but because the hospitality was really honest and warm.

The shelter is being built and run with a lot of love and respect to tradition without losing its originality. We visited the infrastructures of the shelter and especially its main building (how beautiful and cool inside). We also visited the husbandry animals; my son loved the donkey!

We had also the chance to eat there (available only after booking) along with the group. We were served minimal plates concerning the variety and decorations but full of Cretan flavors (and big portions). The wine and raki were also quite good and we enjoyed them. At the end, we bought some cheese (so excellent, we should have bought more).

Special note:
Don't stay at the stereotypes for the area and help the people who are struggling for a different (better) future for their children.
The shelter has been built and managed by the local priest.

A modern view of a traditional craft

Fascinating insight into traditional shepherding life and how it can be modified to preserve the benefits of the traditional with the needs of the present. Beautiful countryside, flowers, insects, birds combined with the products of sheep (lamb, cheese, wool, weaving) made for a fascinating half day. Well worth while.
