I read about this tour online and signed up to do it with my parents while staying in Mission Beach for the weekend. The tour was excellent & included 2 hrs 45 minutes of exotic fruit tasting through a tropical orchard with Fruit Farm owner Peter (who only does tours occasionally) and his right hand man Luie.

It started off with intros and a glass of Soursop fruit juice before heading onto a large tractor for a drive through the orchard. On the way we stopped and saw/tasted a huge variety of fruits - Malay apple, Vanilla bean, Jackfruit, Native pepper, Kumquat, Yellow Sapote ( which was served as dip with crackers!), West Indian limes, Fingerlime, Coffee beans, Camellia (used for tea), Chocolate/cacao pods, Sandpaper fig, Rambutan, Breadfruit, Starfruit, Abiu, Black sapote (made into mousse with cream and Tia Maria!), Pomelo (my fave) and Miracle fruit (which makes beer and wine taste sweet several hours after tasting)

We also saw a pig trap (36 caught in 18 months), photos of wild dingos and photos of cassowaries which are frequently seen in the orchard (the cassowaries are quite common and enjoy the fruit). There was also a demonstration of old aboriginal stone axes which was interesting.

Only negative was the noise and constant misbehaving of some young kids on the tour. They were too young and got bored and made made it hard to hear the commentary. I think kids under 6 shouldn’t go on the tour & it should probably be a rule.

We learned that the regular tours will stop next year due to how busy farm is currently, so I highly recommend a trip to Mission Beach before they cease.

Took four friends on this popular tour and although some baulk at the $48 price, you get value for money. Tour took nearly 3 hours and we must have tasted at least 10 different fruits. Started off with a delicious refreshing drink if soursop. Allison and Warren gave us a great insight of the farm and the drive through the rainforest was beautiful.

We spent 2 ½ interesting hours yesterday at this attraction in the company of Warren and Skye on their intriguing property in FNQ The tour through the forest and exotic fruit orchards was informative and very interesting. We taste fruits we had never tried before and enjoyed the generous hospitality of Warren and Skye. We can thoroughly recommend this tour It is worth doing!

Hi Joy, Thank you for your wonderful review. It was lovely to meet you and your husband and learn that you have in fact bought some of our fruit at the end of the supply chain - in a fruit shop in Melbourne! Warren and I had a great time touring with you and the group - it was a fun afternoon. Enjoy the rest of your travels. Kind regards, Skye

The tour is very well run and the majority of the fruits grown on their farm I had never tasted before! My favourites were the abiu and dragonfruit (purple variety)! They provided explanations of the fruits, the history and the workings of the farm and also showed us Aboriginal tools they discovered along the way; there is a great respect to the Indigenous owners of the land. Very much recommend the tour and only wished I could purchase some abiu fruit back home!

Hi Jenna, Thanks for your review and recommending our tour. Abiu and Dragonfruit are two of my favourties too ;) Abiu certainly is delicious! We currently send to Melbourne and Brisbane only unfortunately (fortunate for some in those cities though!). Kind regards, Skye

Todays visit to Peter & Alison Salleras Fruit Forest Farm was awesome. Their passion in trialing and growing commercially a large range of exotic tropical fruits was so inspiring. After experiencing the full fury of Category 5 Cyclone Yasi in 2011 Peter and Allison were not deterred but actually inspired to future proof their orchard by establishing all new planting’s using Tatura trellessing. We were at the tail end of the wet season fruiting, but still managed to taste amazing Abiu, Soursops, Durian, Jackfruit, Rollinia, Mangosteen, Breadfruit, Cacao, Black Sapote, Breadnut, Cupuassu, Thai Guava, Pomelo and Canistel. It was great to finally meet the Salleras’ that I have heard so much about. They are so generous with their knowledge and their lifetime dedication to trialing and implementing new ways of growing Tropical fruits is so inspiring. If you are ever visiting North Qld you have to book into one of their Saturday afternoon Farm Tours.

We decided to do something different then the regular Tours in the area. We don't regret it for one bit. Peter and Allison share their passion in a brilliant way and the fruit is delicious! Would recommend everyone to visit this place.

Darn,no durian ripe the day we visited.

SUPER TIP! Sit down the back on the right hand side of trailor, otherwise all you will taste is deisel fumes from the tractor exhaust that pokes backwards on left hand front..

Had a fun 2-3 hours here on the tractor ride around the vast property.
No need to walk the steep rainforests as this trip drives you through some rough and steep terrian to see it all.
Tried many different fruits, some great, some bloody aweful. (Most uctually)
Guide was fun and we even saw a cassuary between the rows.
Now I know why many are not on supermarket shelves, but fun to see funny reactions of people trying
Were greeted with a drink at the start that tasted like melte lemon gelati, great!

Hi Wayne, Thanks for your review. You'll have to make a return visit for some freshly picked durian - there's nothing quite like it! Your tip is appreciated - we are continually fine tuning our farm tours to ensure it's an enjoyable experience for everyone. It's great you were lucky enough to see one of our resident cassowaries. Lemon gelati is a nice interpretation of the soursop drink you were greeted with on arrival. See you next durian season ;) Kind regards, Skye
