Michelle gave us a fabulous all day experience. After 4 days walking the Gorge, we went off the beaten track to discover some beautiful and serene areas. It capped off a wonderful week of camping and hiking. She was so knowledgeable about the landscape, the flora and the fauna. We learnt so much and were inspired to return again some day. Can highly recommend these tours.

Michelle and Simon were great. We were meant to do the night wildlife tour and the day tour but had to change plans last minute.
The night tour was fantastic with great sightings of gliders and excellent explanation of the fauna and flora. If the day tour is anything like the night tour, it would be awesome.
Highly recommend.

I can't speak highly enough about the day tour we did with Michelle. Her knowledge and experience meant we got so much more of our visit to the gorge than we would have alone. Michelle points out so much you would otherwise miss. We were fortunate that other people wanted to go the same day which brought the cost down, but either way, the day was excellent value for money. I felt sad for the families speeding around the gorge without really understanding what they were seeing.

The day trip with our guide Michelle was absolutely amazing. She had so much knowledge, facts and information regarding all aspects of the walk. She was very friendly and answered all of our questions with joy and enthusiasm. The Billy tea was an extra treat. The day was not rushed at all and we found it thoroughly enjoyable.

I did the 14 km lower gorge walk and the night time wildlife tour. Highly recommend this company. We probably would have done the lower gorge walk but not realised what we were looking at. Simon and Michelle have a great depth of knowledge and are happy to answer questions. To see the gliders in action at night flitting from tree to tree is amazing. Well worth the money.

Thank you for taking the time to share this wonderful recommendation, Sharyn! It was an absolute pleasure sharing our Lower Gorge Explorer and Night Safari tours with you.
You make a very good point! Visitors are welcome to walk Carnarvon Gorge without a tour guide, but for those wanting to get to know this special place on a deeper level, a guided tour is a fantastic option. Geology, flora, fauna, and human culture and history all influence discussion throughout the day, with no two tours being the same.
Watching marsupial gliders soaring through the forest truly is a sight to behold. I'm so pleased you were able to experience this first hand.
Thank you so much for joining us!

Thanks to Michelle and Simon's wealth of experience and knowledge of the forest and the nocturnal animals, coupled with their well trained eyes and ears, we successfully spotted 2 types of gliders, a platypus and a scorpion!!
Michelle is amazing. Soon after she told us a glider would glide from a branch, this little creature really did so as if it's on cue. How awesome!
On our way back, Michelle kept searching among dried leaves and twigs on the ground. While I was about to ask her what she was doing, she showed us a tiny scorpion on a twig glowing under her ultraviolet light. Simply marvellous!
We also learnt a lot about the forest's animals, it's informative, educational and fun.

Thank you for sharing this fabulous review of our Night Safari Tour, pchu!
Our ears and eyes really are some of our greatest assets. I cannot recall the number of times the faintest rustle, call, or glimmer of eyeshine has helped us to track down gliders. Immersing ourselves in the forest and being alert to it's sights and sounds makes the world of difference when spotting nocturnal wildlife.
I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed the experience so much!
Thanks again for joining us.

Recently did the night walk at Carnarvon Gorge with Michelle and Simon was the spotter. Michelle was excellent, such a passion and wealth of knowledge she was very informative and so respectful of the wildlife. We saw gliders gliding, platypus and a catfish. It was so interesting and would highly recommend this activity for $40.

Thank you, DiLivKnut, for recommending our Night Safari Tour so highly. We sincerely appreciate your support.
As you've noticed, I simply adore observing marsupial gliders in their natural habitat, and being able to share that experience with others is the icing on the cake! Especially when they glide from tree to tree!
Spotting platypus in Carnarvon Creek is always a bonus. They have a reputation for being quite elusive, but luckily we've had some good success lately!
Thanks again for joining us!

We recently undertook a night eco tour in Carnarvon National Park with Michelle as our guide. It was a most informative, interesting and enjoyable activity. The main objective was to spend the time spotting a range of possums that inhabit the national park. Within a few minutes of commencing the walk we were observing the bush wildlife. Michelle’s knowledge of the area plus her ability to relate to us made the whole evening a fantastic experience. Apart from observing a number of possums we were also fortunate to spend some time observing a platypus in the adjacent creek. We can highly recommend these night eco tours as you get to observe wildlife in its native state but you also benefit from the Michells’s extensive and professional knowledge. We were also impressed with Michell’s people skills and her ability to remember names. Ten out of ten. Thanks Michelle. Greg and Rob

Thank you so much for this "ten out of ten" review, Greg and Rob! I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed our Night Safari Tour.
Many of our guests have never had the pleasure of observing marsupial gliders in their natural habitat before, which is why we always focus our attention on tracking these beautiful animals down first. Watching them glide from tree to tree is thrilling, and that sense of awe has not waned in my eight years of running these tours.
Whilst we do encounter the occasional brushtail possum at Carnarvon Gorge, their population is very small when compared with the marsupial gliders that starred in this show!
When time permits, we love being able to amble down the creek in hope of spotting platypus. We were very fortunate, indeed, to have an elevated view of this uniquely Australian animal going about it's nightly business.
Thanks again!
Michelle

We just did this trip a few days ago and it was very well done and worth the $40. The guide which was mainly Simon as Michelle went off scouting for creatures for us to see was a wealth of information about the eco system and the area that these flying foxes live in and the platypus. We did get some flying activity from a few flying foxes but they are wild so unpredictable in behaviour, the highlight for us was the nocturnal activities of the platypus we saw towards the end in the pool.
Overall a great experience which I would recommend.

Thank you, Tracey, for this wonderful Night Safari recommendation!
We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong, wild population of marsupial gliders here at Carnarvon Gorge, and as with all wildlife, their behaviour can be quite changeable. So, using our local knowledge, and long-term experience, Simon and I do our very best to locate these gorgeous animals for our guests, and hopefully see them glide from tree to tree. And glide they did! Woohoo!
It's worth noting that little red flying foxes are known to visit Carnarvon Gorge, but usually only during our summer months. They weren't present during this recent Night Safari Tour. Marsupial gliders were the stars of this show!
Platypus are also here is strong numbers, and it is always a privilege to watch them go about their nightly activity. We're so pleased to hear this was a highlight for you, and that you enjoyed spending an evening exploring the forest with us.
Cheers,
Michelle and Simon.

Michelle was a gem.
We did the lower gorge and night tours and had a great time.
Michelle's knowledge and passion for the gorge and its fauna and flora were inspiring and educational.
She took the time to pace our trek and pointed out many points of interest especially at the art gallery where her knowledge and understanding were grounded in a profound respect for the Indigenous custodians.
Her effervescent personality made the tours an easy walk and more enjoyable by providing the time to spend time at each major attraction to really soak up the environment and what it means to have a wonderful and protected piece of Australia for all of us lucky enough to have made the journey.
The night tour was just as magical with Michelle's red light illuminating trees and spotting Yellow belly Gliders, Greater Gliders, carp, turtles and the stars of the show, Platypus.
Michelle's ears and eyes were as acute as the wildlife she was trying to find for us.
Again her patience or bloody-mindedness not to let us leave with seeing gliding possums and foraging platypi was a credit to her love of what she does and the lengths she will go to make our experience memorable.
Which it was...
if you want to learn more about the gorge and not just touch a wall and tick off your bucket list items.
Book a tour you won't regret it.

Hi just checking on the fitness levels required for your day trips. Is there 1 that involves less climbing that you would recommend. Or perhaps if necessary we skip a climbing canyon and wait for you guys to return. Very keen to tour w oith you as you come highly recommeneded by Vicki of Red Dirt Winton Cheers Maree

Hi Maree,
Thank you for your question.
The Lower Gorge Explorer is our classic full day walk covering 14 km over the course of 8-9 hours. We allow plenty of time to stop and chat about the natural and cultural history of Carnarvon Gorge, so, we're certainly not in any great rush. The walking track is one way in, one way out. We walk to the furthest destination first, so that we can knock off the single biggest chunk of walking whilst we are fresh, and then visit the remaining sites on the way back. The first (and last) 3 km takes us over a series of three small ridges, meaning there are stairs and hills in both directions. The track then evens out as it follows Carnarvon Creek. There are 16 creek crossings via stepping stones throughout the day, so good balance is essential. If you're concerned, consider purchasing a set of hiking poles prior to your visit. The four major sites, Art Gallery, Ward's Canyon, Amphitheatre, & Moss Garden are all accessed via staircases that deviate from the main walking track. Considering each of these major sites require a one way in, one way out detour from the main track, you may choose to sit one or two out. The choice is entirely up to you.
We also offer a half-day walk to the Moss Garden, but only by request, so be sure to get in early with a request if this is your preference. This walk is 7km and takes in just one of the major sites. It still requires a few creek crossings and a number of stairs.
I hope I have sufficiently answered your question. Please let me know if I can offer any further information.
Kind regards,
Michelle

We are visiting mid-August for three nights. We are very interested in your guided trips and want whether we can book them when we arrive or do we need to book beforehand (and if so how early?)
GorgeGuide
Injune, Australia
Thank you for your question, sarah-on-her-hols.
Due to the effects of last year’s bush fires, we no longer have a shopfront from which we can sell our guided tours. As such, it is best to book online. However, access to mobile reception and wifi can be patchy here at Carnarvon Gorge, so it would be better to book at least a few days before your arrival whilst you still have reliable signal.
It would also be worth checking our tour calendar on our website to check if and when your desired tour is scheduled to run during your visit, as we don’t offer every tour every day.
I hope you find this helpful.

Do we need to pack lunch for the gorge tour?
GorgeGuide
Injune, Australia
Yes, due to our remote location, we cannot provide lunch. We do, however, provide morning and afternoon snacks, and boil the billy at lunchtime.
If you choose to make a booking with us, everything you need to know about meeting locations, what to bring and what we provide will be listed under “Additional Information” on page two of your order confirmation email.
