Learn the essential backbone of Balinese cooking
Feb. 2020
After a long hot journey from canngu I arrived at wayan’s family compound which is a traditional Balinese family home. From a busy street you walk into the calm. Wayan patiently taught me how to make offering baskets which was a first for me although I found them as hard as rubricks cube the result was more pleasing. The first recipes give you versatile paste which you will use in later dishes. Wayans relaxed style of teaching offered me alternatives I could use in Britain and gave me additional recipes for Samball matah and chillie and tomato sambal which I had tried and wanted to learn. the finished dishes were fresh and satisfying by preference I made spicy and under careful guidance the dishes were well balanced between sweet sour spicy and salty. To enhance your understanding of Balinese cooking I highly recommend the course as a lovely place way to learn with lovely people

This was ok in a basic outdoor kitchen. In the shade but quite hot. Spent about 45 making a basket which wasn’t really my thing. Then we had written recipes but all the ingredients were out of order which was confusing and the chefs didn’t give us step by step instructions. Not very clear. But the finished product seemed tasty. I would not recommend.

Authentic Balinese Experience for Couple Date
Dec. 2018 • Couples
Boss can speak good English and picks up at hotel to tour the morning market. Interesting explanation on unique origin of Bali spices and vegetables.

All the ingredients are prepared nicely, just have to enjoy the process of cutting and cooking it. Our instructor/owner Wayan is very friendly and patient with great English.

You will eat every 2 dishes after preparing them. Staff will garnish and decorate it for the dishes to be Instagram worthy.

Worth the experience! Whatsapp them if u are staying in Ungasan luxury area!

Excellent cooking class
Aug. 2018 • Family
We joined the cooking class in the afternoon. The driver picked us up in our hotel and brought us to the villa. First we learnt to make flower baskets and rice bags. Then the cooking class started. We cooked 10 different dishes. They were delicious and we try to cook them at home. We highly recommend it!

Cooking class for two
Mar. 2018 • Couples
I love cooking and my wife surprised me with a cooking class.

We got picked up from our hotel by Taste of Bali and taken to a little market, we just looked around for about 10 minutes and then we went to the class. We cooked 10 dishes and it was amazing to do.

Make sure you are hungry!!!

We arrived about 9:30 am and had a small talk. We then learnt how to weave a traditional basket and a rice cooker.

We then commence the class and we finished about 1:30pm and we felt really really full.

The class was awesome and I would do again!!

Authentic and delicious

Please do not eat a big breakfast!! This cooking school offers a 10 dish menu.
Day begins with a quick tour of the local Jimbaran market. Worth doing as its good to understand the fruit and vegetables.
You begin by making an offering that is blessed in preparation for "good cooking".
Our host was so patient with us and provided lots of helpful information.
This cooking school is very hands on and is located in Jimbaran.

No need for breakfast before you go!

This was a fantastic experience with such friendly hosts and teachers. We were a group of friends staying in Jimbaran and this was the perfect location to do a cooking class rather than driving all the way to Ubud where many of the other classes are. Picked up from our hotel, driver said he didn't have good English but drove us to our cooking location with a stop along the way at local markets where he showed us the produce.
Our experience was more than just cooking. We loved learning how to make traditional Balinese offerings and then weaving rice baskets to cook our rice in before even commencing our cooking lesson. Our lesson consisted of a 10 course meal including all of the traditional meals, with instructions on how to prepare and create Balinese specialties. This is not a clinical setting, it is a family compound, so if you are after a traditional experience, this makes it even better. Amongst our group was a Health inspector and it was noted that all practices were safe and clean. We really, really enjoyed this experience, and would highly recommend it. Our hosts were absolutely lovely and we wanted to take them home. Please do yourself a favour and do this cooking class if you are in the Jimbaran/Kuta area and do not want to spend a whole day travelling to and from a class.
