Cadbury is officially closed to all visitors. The factory tours stopped back in 2016 and the Cadbury shop sadly closed its doors to all visitors back in December 2018. The factory is still open for production 365 days a year, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week producing some of the world's best chocolate. You can still sit in the Cadbury landscaped park outside the factory and if your very lucky, sometimes, you may even catch a glimpse of the wonderful little Oompa Loompa's through the windows having their lunch. Some tour operators around the City of Hobart still have old advertising, advertising Tours at Cadburys and the Cadbury shop being open, don't be fooled or mislead into believing the tours still operate and the shop is open as they don't and it isn't.

Went along Oct 2007 expecting to see chocolate being churned through big vats and seeing it from scratch and to eat samples and seconds all along the way, but how wrong I was as there has been big changes made since January 2006.

$ 15 Aud pp sees you in the door and on entry to the gift shop that you wait in before tour you are offered to take as many freddos/koalas from a basket, however, these must be eaten before the tour starts. Shortly after you are excorted into another room where the rules are explained and you are told that there is to be no jewelery except for a plain wedding band, no watches, mobiles, cameras, handbags backpacks etc. These are places ina secure locker and you are given a hair net and the tour commences.

Very informative I must say and you are free to ask questions. We got to see the production of Freddo frogs, Turkish delights and cherry ripes. From when they are popped from the moulds to the coasting, wrapping and boxing.

No samples are given throughout the tour anymore, as they used to dispense secondsas you went to as much as you could eat, but, due to workplace health and safety this has all changed. As has the tour format, apparently pre 2006 you would see the chocolate made also from scratch and the big conches it is stirred in, but no more :(

At the end you are give a minature box of Favourites as a souvenier and of course the highlight of the tour was the shop at the end which was very well priced!

Its worth a look no doubt if you have the spare time and a hire car, but don't expect to see too much action.

Ok I have a sweet tooth, so how could we not go on a Cadbury tour when we reach Tasmania?
Well our family of 4 booked for the factory tour in Feb 08. We booked well before hand and it costs us $60.
The tour started late - 20 minutes late with no explanation though we were served with some dairy milk while waiting.
After putting on all the protective gears and putting away our valuables we were asked to walk in a single file into the factory like school kids for safety reason.
The guide to her credit had a really dry sense of humour and she lit up the whole tour.
First we went thru the packaging, then a short tour around on the making of cherry ripes and turkish delight. Half of the time, we could hardly hear what the guide say because the noise of the machinery was just intense.
We were not given any opportunity to ask any questions and the whole time it was go, go and go as if there's a plane to catch.
It was very disappointing because we were expecting to be able to see how the chocolate bars were created from cocoa powder to the finished products but all we got to see were bits and pieces of various processes.
We did not even get like a sample or any chocolate at the end of the tour before we were rushed through to the chocolate shop at the exit where we could purchase some choc and seconds at prices no cheaper than what you could easily get from the grocery stores.
Overall , it was disappointing but if you've never been or if you've got nothing else to do, it's a good timewasting tour.

Cadbury in Hobart have now stopped tours of their factory. They have cited health as the reason which is their perogative.
They do however continue to offer an "experience". What this entails is watching a short DVD, listening to a guide explain how many cocoa pods it takes to make a freddo and then you're ushered into the shop.

Unfortunately the shop is not cheap. It certainly doesn't pay to waste your time, petrol and entry fee to save 10 cents here and there in the shop.

My tip for you, visit one of the hundred other attractions in Hobart, nip into the supermarket on the way home for a chocolate bar and skip this failing attraction.

What a disappointment! I was so looking forward to going to Cadbury's as I had never been there before but my children had on previous school trips. I was so looking forward to getting some cheap chocolates and lollies. Well the shop isn't even open now, nothing is. Cadbury's website needs to be updated to say the shop is even closed.

Like other reviewers I had great expectations about this chocolate factory tour which were in no way fulfilled.

The tour was brief: participants saw little of the chocolate making process, and there were no free samples.

To top it all off, the female guide lacked warmth.

I gained the impression that a union-led push for so-called 'workplace health and safety' had ruined everything, but the company is also guilty by omission of false advertising in promoting this tour as something for children to look forward to.

A complete rip-off and in contrast to the wonderful Boags Brewery tour in Launceston which was the antithesis of the Cadbury tour.

This company has recently taken court action to claim that it has exclusive marketing rights to the colour 'purple' for chocolate. Perhaps before challenging other companies it should get its marketing basics correct, and ask itself if offering such a poor tour devalues the Cadbury brand in Australia.

Willy Wonka would never have offered as poor a tour like this, which is a disservice to the whole Tasmanian tourism industry because it's the sort of small thing visitors recall...and tell others about what a waste of time it was, for children and adults alike.

My partner and I visited the Cadbury Factory on 14 October 2004. We had our own hire car so drove ourselves to the factory, which wasn't too hard - if we would have given in and asked for directions!! Our tour commenced at 12noon. We paid our tour fee of $25AUD - that was for both of us. We then sat in a waiting room and had to take off jewelry, were advised about not being allowed to take photo's etc. We were then educated about the history of Cadbury Chocolate - I must say it was really interesting. The tour started..............some of the areas you go into within the factory were quite cold whereas other areas are very humid and hot. But along the way we had treats galore!! Plenty of choccies to munch on (samples and seconds). And just my luck the day I was there they were making CHERRY RIPES. Oh thank youuuu!! My fav. They brought out these massive bowls FULL of offcuts of the Cherry Ripes that were either too small, mis-shaped, too big etc. I didn't mind I ate away! THEN at the end of the tour you get to shop in the Cadbury Shop! And the good thing is you can only go in there if you've been on the tour. The chocolate is sooo cheap. By the end of the day I'd decided I'd eaten far too much and walked away feeling a little sick in the tummy. But TOTALLY SATISFIED.

The place is permanently closed to visitors. We happened to be in the area doing a tour of TAS and thought we’d pop in only to see signs saying it was closed

A group of us went to lunch at the Cascade Visitor Centre. The setting itself is lovely, looking out on very attractive and well-maintained heritage gardens, with seats and water features. Very nice. The meal? Well, to start with, there's a tasting area down at the far end of the dining area, & quite loud rocky music was being played on their speakers, making our conversation very difficult. It was music like 'Jailhouse Rock' and etc, totally inappropriate for our group of classical music teachers (all aged 70+!) My friend and I ordered the beef hot pot which was described as having puff pastry and seasonal vegetables. When it arrived there was no pastry, which we pointed out to the waitress who checked & came back with a giggle & said it'd be ready in a moment. She brought us a small round of pastry each a bit later. The meal was too salty and runny, the veges were lumpy mashed potato, a couple of snow peas, two big chunks of brocolli, and some very nice asparagus spears. Not $24 worth though. Service was quick and efficient, it's spacious and airy, and for tourists there was a souvenir shop and tours of the brewery available.

With an afternoon free befor catching a flight we decided to take the bus one hour outside Hobart to "see" the Cadbury factory. We knew you couldn't go inside the factory but we expected some kind of museum or tour. You have to pay $4 to enter a souvenir shop and cafe. They give you a bag with 3 pieces of chocolate that you basically just paid for with your entry fee. There are 3 rooms: a souvenir shop, cafe and a chocolate shop. So basically you pay to spend more money at their shops. Everything is boxed off and looks like a construction site where you are next to factory workers eating lunch.
It is a complete waste of time and quite frankly a bit offensive to be forced to pay an entry fee to a souvenir and gift shop. Do yourself a favor and don't come here. Absolutely nothing for kids to do here either.
