My partner and I really enjoyed our time with Shan and his family. The market was a great way to experience authentic Sri Lankan fresh produce and be part of the ingredient selection. Shan explained how to select the best ingredients and we were also free to choose our own. Just be aware that the ingredients from the market are not included in the cooking class price and you will need to bring cash (our total shop was around 1,800LKR).

From the market, Shan drove us back to his village where we were welcomed by his family. Throughout the whole experience Shan made sure we were comfortable and explained everything to us about Sri Lankan traditions and culture, happily answering any questions we had.

We were included in all of the preparation and cooking which we loved! We got to try some traditional cooking practices and tools before heading into the more modern kitchen to prepare the variety of dishes with our ingredients.

Whilst I am a vegetarian, Shan and his wife made sure my partner and I enjoyed creating an abundance of delicious dishes that accommodated our dietary requirements. The food was delicious and we both left with very full and happy bellies!

We loved how we were made to feel part of the family and how authentic the experience was.

Shan also drove us to a local tea plantation on our way back to Kandy at our request which we really enjoyed!

Oh and their dog ‘Odi’ is an added bonus! Such a sweetie!
