- KimBangkok, Thailand785 contributionsVery lively but you should only visit onceThis Sunday market is lively and bustling, drawing in tourists with its local delights and unique products. Featuring a variety of street food, snacks, and souvenirs, the market caters to visitors, especially those from China. However, the crowded atmosphere, largely due to international tourists, can make the experience hectic and less authentic. Many items at the market are available elsewhere in Phuket, making it more of a one-time visit than a regular stop. For a more genuine and less crowded immersion in local culture and cuisine, exploring other markets and eateries in Phuket is recommended. While the Sunday market is undoubtedly attractive, its crowded nature may not justify repeated visits, as Phuket's culinary essence can be enjoyed in quieter settings throughout the week.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 14 January 2024

- Audrey B1 contributionWell worth going ….The markets on Sundays in Phuket Town are really interesting. Food, art, gifts, fabrics, clothing, live entertainment all guaranteed to be enjoyed. Tip : if it is very hot like the day we went make sure you have water and stay hydrated. Also bathrooms are hard to find so plan your bathroom stopsVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024

- SujoyPAustralia564 contributionsHad a fab timeIt's been years since I've been to this market, and I was keen to return with a friend who was enjoying her first visit to Phuket. We arrived early, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. So much to see and eat, lots of music, great shopping, lots of beautiful/unique items, great food. It was crowded and hot but we had a fantastic time. Don't be in a rush when you go, take time to wander and stop for a cocktail or some food along the way.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 June 2024

It’s large, vibrant, offers diverse street food, unique souvenirs, and lively music. The bustling atmosphere, colorful lights, and local crafts make it a must-visit. However, it can get crowded, so be prepared for a lively, energetic evening. Too bad there were sooooo many people you could barely walk when we went. Otherwise the charming colorful houses, the stall and the ton of little and interesting food stalls are great. Good vibe and feeling.

We arrived at the Sunday market about 6 o’clock it was comfortable to look around, unfortunately by 7 ish it was packed out and no way could you really look at things properly. I did ask the price of a few things they were all over priced from other markets. This is a market mainly set up for tourists. Be aware that a taxi that brought you to the market that cost 200 Bart’s is likely to cost more than double to take you back.

This left me a bit disappointed. This wasn’t as interesting as I thought it would be. Certainly lots of interesting food stalls but all the other goods for sale weren’t that interesting. The street entertainment I found a bit odd - in particular one local belting out John Denver songs as part of his repertoire and children performing Karoke. I would have liked a little more variety in the items on offer - I was looking for souvenirs for family but nothing really suitable

Friday 14th February we were on an Explore Phuket Tour, which included sightseeing in Old Phuket.
One of the attractions was the Sunday Walking Street Market. Although we did not visit here on a Sunday, there was sufficient open and going on to give us a flavour of the place.
We strolled along past vibrantly painted buildings, ornate fronted shops & restaurants. There was some amazing wall art adding to the atmosphere.
Shops along the street were displaying fabrics of every colour. Tourist shops were side by side with local hardware and general stores.
We visited a number of arcades filled with stalls with their merchandise on display.
There were a plethora of bars, cafes and restaurants along the way.

If you live in Pukhet you can take a look at the market. We were driven there from Khao Lak but we wouldn't do that again. The prices at the market are OK but there are hardly any different souvenirs there than at other markets that are offered on every tourist mile. The food didn't convince us at all. Maybe we were at the wrong stalls but after a few days in Thailand we were used to better...
Due to the crowds I would probably avoid the market with a stroller or if you have a physical disability. Of course it's possible but it's just a hassle...

Old town in Phuket is a must visit regardless, but the market is something really special. Here you can find all the Thai food you could possibly want to taste, from classics such as pad thai to grilled jelly fish, clothes and jewelry etc. A real experience!
Make sure you have cash with you. We recommend going there before the sun goes down to see when the market starts up, as well as to avoid when it is most crowded.

This market is situated in the nicest part of phuket old town. Either side of the road are tastefully restored colonial buildings which enhance the atmosphere. The are multiple street food stalls as well as souvenirs and every couple of hundred yards would be some form of street entertainment. It was very busy, probably the most people we have seen in one place for a couple of years, but covid measures were still being met with temperature checks and masks.

Any idea if there are designated parking lots nearby this weekend market?
Written 8 October 2019
Not that I know of. We were staying in the vicinity and walked there. You may be able to park in the Limelight shopping centre and walk from there.

1) How much will it cost if I use Grab Taxi to reach the Sunday weekend market from Patong Beach?
2) Any other cheapest option to get to this market, except the public bus?
3) Is it worth to visit this market?

700bht from Kamala to that area
The market is good for food and the side streets have some nice small bars with locals playing music. Very family friendly

How long in taxi will it take from karon? Looks good but Is it really worth the travel with two young kids or will the karon/patong markets be a suitable alternative
Written 3 August 2018
About 45 minutes. If you love your food it is a must visit. I have travelled all over Thailand and this is a great market. The shopping is ok as well. Kids jewellery, toys, clothes. (Ages 6-12) also just outside the main street is some really nice restaurants. This market is very clean, good music being played, great ambiance. No haggling. Patong markets the opposite.
