Cool stop to make

The lighthouse is an interesting stop and the beach is pretty. The light house is only closed at lunch and on weekends.

Lighthouse made of steel. Whole complex fenced so have to attract guards attention to get in. Good views from top. There was a childrens party going on one floor up...very unusal! Being made of steel it was quite noisy too, but friendly guard lets you in.

What a total waste of time.... arrived to view and the gates were closed. even though the gate said viewing times were between 9am and 16:00 week days. And yup it was a week day , not a holiday , weekend or public holiday. The number listed to call was never picked up and no one who drove in would... More

AHHH! My husband and I spent the majority of the day at Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope and were to stop at Slangkop on the way back to Cape Town. I knew their hours, I had everything set and when we arrived, they were closed. As my best friend (who lives in South Africa) says, "That's South... More

After paying an entrance fee, the lighthouse keeper left us to wander alone inside the lighthouse. We made our way up 144 metal steps (landings included in this count) to the top. The panoramic view from up top is beautiful. The platform is wide enough to circumnavigate the top floor of the lighthouse. There was a large crack in the... More

No matter how many times I pass this lighthouse, I love it. I've seen it nearly from all angles except from the waters and I still love it. It is amazing to walk on the beach and footpath. I've attempted the top but didn't quite make it up all the stairs.

A lovely walk along the beach at Long Beach Kommetjie to reach the lighthouse, nothing to do when you reach it, as it is not open to the public.

We went on a Sunday, so we were unable to go inside the Lighthouse but it was a lovely day and we enjoyed the walk. Lots of people enjoying the sunshine and I was very happy to see security there as well.

The coastal path wanders up to the lighthouse which stands out and can be seen from most of Kommetjie. Beautiful at different times of the day and in various weather conditions. We did not do the climb inside - outside views only.
