We spent a couple weeks travelling the Cape Town area from a place we stayed at just off the beach in the area. Some of the best local experiences included walking the length of the beach early in the morning, watching the surfers, climbing the walking trail behind the lighthouse to the top of the mountain and simply sitting on... I think what I love about this lighthouse is the access to it. The boardwalk (Die Kom) is a lovely walk along the shoreline. There are benches along the way where you can sit and enjoy the Atlantic ocean's crashing waves, and the surfers braving the cold water. The Lighthouse itself provides interesting information, and you're allowed to climb it... More

If you are interested in lighthouses Slangkop is close to Cape Town and the views are stunning. On one side you overlook Hout Bay and Chapmans Peak Drive and on the other side is nothing until you get to South America. Well worth a visit.

We could not enter, as it was a public holiday. But the facilities seem well-maintained. Very clean and neat.

If lighthouses are your thing, then this is probably a good place to visit, if you're in the area of Kommetjie. It's not special, so not worth a particular trip just to see it. There is a lovely boardwalk running near the shore towards it which is a very pleasant approach. For me, it is probably more of a landmark... More

There is an enchanting boardwalk approach to this Totem, this beacon of light, approached by a wandering boardwalk along the rugged coast which is always a delight of the blend of sea and rocks which might even reincarnate Vincent Van Gogh and inspire artists and photographers to linger and marvel at the wonders of nature: the diamonds of light upon... If with time and when driving along the scenic coastal road, this is one place you might want to visit. Although tucked in a corner, the lighthouse is visible from the side of the road and is not too far from the main road. It is one of the taller lighthouses so those who want to climb all the way... Good views and nice to see inside of lighthouse. Would benefit from some information boards or someone to provide information on history of the lighthouse. Worth a visit if you are in the area but check opening times first.
