The Peter and Paul fortress was built by Peter the Great and the Cathedral is inside the fortress. It is the oldest church in St. Petersburg. We were amazed by the beautiful architecture of this cathedral from inside and outside. From across the Neva River,...More

This is an amazing cathedral, learning about how it was built and the mosaics is a must. Also recommend that you climb up to the top. If you get there early, when it first opens and buy a ticket from the ticket machines, there is...More

Another stunning building that reflects the imperial history of Russia. It is one of the oldest official buildings in St Petersburg. It also houses the tombs of most of Russian rulers since Peter the Great and is in pristine order. We were on a cruise...More

Interesting enough, but wouldn't be top of my list for SPB. Good to wander round in fine weather but prison and church not of much interest. Good views though.

The spire caught our eye from the other side of the river and so was delighted when our guide took us there. It is stunning both inside and out and is the burial place of the Romanoffs. Lots of history which I wouldn't have picked...More

I was so impressed by the height of the steeple the first time we saw it from across the river from the Hermitage. It was very interesting to see the memorials to many of Russia's royalty.
