A charming lodge with amazing views of the himalayas!

Rooms are basic but full of character and the welcome from Dava Sherfa and his wife is fantastic!

Get up early and watch the sun rise over everest and the himalayas!!

On our last tour from Chitwan to Kathmandu, we decided to go via Daman. We had 3 objectives.
1) to avoid the same route we used (Pritvi High Way): we aimed to see more attractive places. 2)To see Himalaya clearly: Daman is a centrally located high land in Nepal from which we can see clearly .
3)To touch snow: It is a unique place towards south-west of Kathmandu, where snow has been recorded in a freezing month, every year.
The rout is amazing. Our vehicle was 4-wheel geared, so no problem to climb up steep roads. Roads are all tared. We saw few Maruti Taxis on the way.
Water falls and crystal clear water springs all the way there; alluring vegetation on both sides; heart pumping precipices on one side and a gigantic hill to the other side.
We reached to the one and only Daman Resort (Everest Panoramic View Resort) and had Lunch. The trail to the Resort from the main road also fascinating; felt like a nature trail.
There is a Pavilion made for the view of Himalaya, with table settings for dining. It was a very wet day, so we missed that dreamed view. No snow also to the place, another misfortune..should be then in December...

This is reputedly the longest stretch of Himalayas you can see from any point in Nepal and I believe it! If you don't have clouds it's really fantastic!

I was at the Daman view tower between 2 pm and 3:30 pm on December 20, 2011, and was treated to a cloudless and hazeless view of a long, long stretch of the Himalayas. The view tower is on the road between Hetauda and Kathmandu and is a slower route (I've heard) than the route from Gharatpur through Mugling.

I agonized over staying at Daman because the only place on TripAdvisor got horrible reviews--especially for being cold. I stayed at Chitwan National Park and left at about 9:30 with my private car and driver and arrived at the well-advertised view tower at about 2:00 pm. It's a long but very pretty drive. It was the coldest place I've been in Nepal, including Bandipur, Tansen, Nagarkot and Sarangkot (famous Himalaya Viewpoints)--all before sunrise. Dress Warm!

The road north from Hetauda has some traffic for the first 20 -30 km but after that there's little traffic, the road is very, very windy but it's in quite good condition (for Nepal) and very scenic. Daman has little to offer as services, there is a small cafe at the viewtower but not much choice and they'd run out of food when I got there.

As we continued north, down the other side of the mountain we continued to get a lot of great views of the Himalayas. These view offered more opportunites to get "art photos" looking at a Nepalese house or village with the Himalayas beyond. Since I was coming down the mountain later in the day I got some really good orange and gold colors.

There's a small town close to the bottom of the hill that has a hotel on the south (left) side of the road that will serve food, Mugling further on has a bunch of restaurants and probably some cheap places to stay.

If you are lucky and get a good view Daman is # 3 after Nagarkot and Sarangkot in my opinion and a must if you are just trying to get to "drive-to" points on a circuit around Nepal. See my comments about the other two viewpoints.

The viewtower is about $1 US to go up and it's worth it because you get above the trees for an excellent view. Definitely dress warm for this time of year. I had read elsewhere--and can now confirm--it's surprisingly cold at this particular part of Nepal.

Bring a tripod because with just an 16X compact camera I was able to get outstanding shots of the ice fields and other details. TIP: if you use the self-timer to activate the shutter 2-10 seconds after you hit it, you won't move the camera on these zoom shots using a light but flimsy tripod ! A beanbag will also help if you don't have a tripod. There's a free (?) telescope on the viewtower but it wasn't as good as the cheap pair of compact binoculars I brought along and shared with the other tourists who appeared.

I didn't see many busses on this road with lots of switchbacks. The entire road is just lots of switchbacks and not for folks who get car sick! It is a long ride, but it's almost all good pavement with no potholes.

You can get with Blue Mountain Travels and get a car or van--I was very happy with my 12-day rental...they were very competive and their service outstanding. They were my 14th car/driver experience in Asia in the last 7-8 years. Highly recommended.

Traveling to Dawn either to/from Chatman or Kathmandu is a superb experience. The "hills" are the newest range in the Himalayas consequently with different topography and fertility. Terraces scattered around switchbacks create beauty and interest for travellers at every turn. And when you arrive in sunny weather, there is the extra pleasure of a panorama of 8 of the highest mountains in the world. You are not up close and personal with the mountains, but hey, they are too big to fit into your lounge room so stop complaining.

I went to this place hoping I could catch a snow, but they said snow came 2 days ago. This trip was still rewarding. The quietness of this place is surreal! Locals are amazingly friendly and though the temperature was very cold (2C!), they are very warm. Great place to think and clear your mind from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. The view going to this place is breathtaking. literally and figuratively!

On the way to Pokhara from Kathmandu, we decided to take a detour to Daman. Based on reports, Daman provides one of the best panorama views of the Himalaya from the "Observation Tower" ... on a clear day. Unfortunately for us it was not a clear day ... very hazy & polluted. For tourists, other than seeing the view of the Himalaya it is certainly not worth the trip up a long and very winding road. As a result of this detour instead of taking the usual 6 -7 hour journey along the main highway, it took us almost 12 hours ... on Nepali roads!!! From Daman, the winding road eventually takes you all the way down to Chitwan before you are able to make your way back up to highway and finally onto Pokhara. A long day ... better to fly to Pokhara from Kathmandu.or to take the direct route.

A beautiful place outside Kathmandu with a spectacular Mountain View. We went to visit the temple. First we walked through the forest until we finally reached the tempel.
