Great place to visit

We caught a bus from Matsumoto that left at 1015 and arrived at 1200. I would suggest a pair of good walking shoes and maybe a spray jacket just to be on the safe side. The walk... read more

The scenery is kind of a small scale, if you have been to other countries like Germany, Australia, China - Kamikochi is just nothing... there are not many "tourist spots" in that area, so this place is kind of made-up as a must go place. Especially when you pay 5040yen for a 3 hours bus ride for such a place,... More

We caught a bus from Matsumoto that left at 1015 and arrived at 1200. I would suggest a pair of good walking shoes and maybe a spray jacket just to be on the safe side. The walk through the park is not difficult but at times the path is quite rocky. It was amazing. Snow on the mountain tops as... More

If you're going to visit on a day trip from Matsumoto, it's best to hire a car then drive to the parking area and catch a taxi. It's pricey (but not that pricey). That way you get to make the most of the view, hiking and nature. Because that bus queue looks awful.

Visited the place in autumn in late October 2016. Arrived early by bus from Tokyo - approx. at 3AM in the morning. We started trekking at 7AM to see how grandeur the God-made view was! It was utterly amazing. Going there in autumn might be the best time as you'll be seeing the yellow-ish scenic view all over the place.... More

I went to Kamikochi, the crown jewel of the Japanese Alps. The scenic area is a basin at an elevation of 1500 metres. The Alps rise an additional 1500 metres from there, creating a stunningly gorgeous background. It is probably one of the most spectacular views I have seen.

My wife's first camping trip was here to Kamikochi. Although the campground was very crowded this is no doubt one of the best places for outdoor recreation. We woke up in the morning and the monkeys were in the trees right above the tent!

Achingly beautiful place to walk through for an afternoon. Formed from a volcanic mud flow I believe and due to the policy of asking tourists to take their rubbish home with them, it's wonderfully clean. Great if you want to relax and soak in a bit of fresh air and nature.

The paths are easy to follow and you can walk for many hours to see the different lakes - tashiro ike, taisho ike and myojin ike. Immerse yourself in nature and take a moment to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. It was very cold when I visited in October so please dress up. If you are feeling fit, there are some... More

Visited Kamikochi as a day trip from Takayama. Had a great day. The walking tracks are amazing. Scenery is surreal. Would loved to have spend a couple of days here walking the various tracks.

We started our day trip by bus from Hirayu Bus Terminal, the return bus fare is 2050 yen and it is valid for 2 days. We got off the bus at Taisho-ike Bus Stop, one stop before the Kamikochi bus Terminal. The crystal clear blue water of Taisho Pond forming the scenic mirror-like reflections of Mt. Yakedate. We passed by... More
