Emerald Eco Retreat is the only accommodation located within the Bandhavgarh National Park and Trip Adviser will not post this Retreat separately, possibly as it does not have a street address. Wildlife do not need street names! If you are concerned about insects or any wildlife passing by your room, it is not for you. From our bungalow window and around the camp we saw numerous birds, monkeys, Bengal fox, Indian hare and many species of deer, however, a leopard was only sighted around our bungalows once during our stay there. This means a total lockdown.

The accommodation is spacious and each bungalow is totally surrounded by jungle. The main building has a large lounge, living area and dining room. Wifi is available in this area. Safaris, and all meals and soft drinks are supplied in the package.

Vivek, the on-site naturalist, is a wealth of knowledge about the local area and entertains guests, at dinner, with his animal stories. He accompanies the safaris.

The retreat has only 12 rooms, so the accomodation is limited. There is also a limit on the number of daily safaris that are taken into the park. This means that it is essential that bookings are done well in advance, with a copy of your passport. You can do 2 safaris per day if you can rise before dawn and spend 8 hours in a Jeep. We did 5 safaris over 3 days. Morning and afternoon were different as we entered by different gates and used different tracks.
I would recommend staying in the National Park to get a real jungle retreat experience.

Transfers can be arranged from any airport in Madhya Pradesh. As we wanted to explore Madhya Pradesh, Emerald Experiences organised a bespoke trip for us to explore a large area of the state. Our group of seven flew to Indore and were met by drivers in two comfortable cars. We spent four days exploring on the way to Emerald Eco Retreat in Bandhavgarh National Park. Staying at Indore, Bhopal (capital) and Jabalpur on the way.

After our visit to the retreat, we traveled for two days to fly home from Gwalior, staying at Khajuraho and Orchhaj.
Although there was a lot of road travel, it was an amazing trip passing through a variety of villages and landscapes, while learning about the culture and history. A great experience

Madhya Pradesh tourism is, as yet, under developed and the sites are not crowded like those in Rajasthan.
