Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This might be a more interesting place if you’re a bird watcher or looking for some quiet down time. We stopped by on our way to climb Cotopaxi, so it was a secondary thing. As you’ll read in the other reviews- it’s a nice flat stroll around a pond. Sometimes you will see wild horses grazing nearby or a group of horseback riders. Pretty. Serene.

The laguna here is full of wildlife and is a really serene and relaxing spot to visit after a tiring hike up Cotopaxi.

We drove to the end of the road at the 15,000-foot level of Cotopaxi and hoped to hike up to Base Camp, but none of us was acclimatized to the altitude yet, so we opted for the walk around Laguna de Limpiopungo, which was a very lovely and easy hike with wonderful views of the volcano.

We booked a room in a nice hacienda 4 km from the park, but the min package to enter the park was 73 usd per person if you were 2 people. Therefore we decided to save the 146 usd and hike by ourselves the easy path. According to lonely planet the entrance fee was 10 usd.
But once arrived at the park entrance, the rangers told us that we couldn't enter without a car because of the danger of the volcano - first time we heard it & wasn't written anywhere. They offered us to call a friend and organize the 5 min drive for 50 usd.
By the way, back at the Hacienda we heard another couple who managed to get a car from a local, but once at the entrance, the story was different. They couldn't enter if a guide wasn't with us in the car was with us.
That place is nice, nothing special & not worthed getting ripped off.

We celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary with this walk. On a sunny day with Cotopaxi clear, what more could you want? A lot of folks go up to the car park and refuge for a walk- but this walk is easier (it's not up and down hill on scree), cheaper (you don't need the NP guide here) and lower (3900m as opposed to 4700m). Good birds and paramo plants.

During our 3.5 week stay in Ecuador we hired a guide/driver for two days to take us to Laguna Quilotoa, Saquisili and Cotopaxi. If you want more info about the guide, please mail me.
As part of our tour to the Cotopaxi, we walked around this lake. It is a nice walk with amazing views (also of the Cotopaxi) and if you are lucky, you will get to see some animals like deer and horses .. and birds ofcourse.

Laguna de Limpiopungo is a beautiful place but you have seen everthing (if you are not a birdwatcher) pretty soon. Of course there wild horses around there are amazing. We stopped to the Laguna after claiming to the edge of Cotopaxi glacier.

I visited after Cotopaxi and the place is just beautiful. Don't get out of the path as this is a protected area. We even saw deer.

Quiet little lake with wildlife and gorgeous views around it. We saw several species of birds/ducks and even some wild horses having a drink. If clear, there are views of Cotopaxi and there are easy to follow trails that can be hiked. Maps are posted at the parking entryway. There were quite a few people walking around the lake, but as we hiked a little away from it, we had the place to ourselves. There is parking here, but no restrooms. Be sure to wear layers and bring plenty of water.

Could somebody please tell me if you stay on the road through the avenue of volcanoes without taking any turn offs to Limpiopungo what is the highest elevation you will be at.
I keep googling but cannot find this answer anywhere. Looking forward to your reply.

the road to limpiopungo is gravel, good enough, i had no 4wd, the road up from machachi is made of bigger stones, even possible by normal cars. you are always around 4000m, i did sleep up there and get a little headache, anyway it's absolutely worth, take the walk around, can take up 2 hours, if you are a birder even more.
