Tripadvisorā€™s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visit the Cotopaxi National Park without any organized tour. We woke up early (6 am), we went to Quitumbe bus terminal and got a bus to Latacunga (around 3.5 USD). You have to ask the bus driver to drop you at the bridge stop. This way will take you to the main Park's entrance. From the bridge to the entrance, it is about 7 km. Once crossed the bridge, many jeep owners will propose you a tour up to the parking where you will start hiking to refuge. The cost of this tour is about 25 USD. We decide to try the option flag down.
We started to walk and about 10 minutes later a car stopped. It was a biologist driving up to restore flora and fauna. The car took us to the main entrance where you need to register by giving your ID or passport. Once registered, we started to walk towards the parking which is about 24 km. 1 minute after we started to walk we flagged down and a pick-up stopped. It was an ecuadorian family that was visiting the National Park for its first time. They accepted to give us a ride and we jumped in. We drove to the parking (4600 mt) and then we tried to hike to the refuge (4800 mt) but the atmospheric situation did not even allow us to begin.Too windy and cold. We had to find a shelter in the car and we all decided to visit the Limpiopungo lagoon which was on the way to the National Park's entrance.
If you want to try a more adventurous way of getting to the parking where to start hiking, we hardly suggest this COTOTAXI experience. It is worthy and cheap,it only costed us 7 USD each.

Cotopaxi National Park is must see and do when Ecuador and Quito. It features beautiful views from the top and you can hike up to the snow line which provides a surreal experience when considering you are on the equator.

About 2 hours from Quito, take an Uber here for 17 dollars; old town will be about 25. Ask your driver to come back at a preset time and place because there is hardly any network. If you have a tent, there's enough to get by. Find a hotel, a lodge or just hike.

Drove 90 minutes to be told I could not enter with my dog. They did not provide any other options. I tried to tie my dog to a tree outside the park then a ranger told me I could not do it because it would hurt the tree. No attempt to help. No empathy. Never going back again.

Viewing the volcano from any angle is breathtaking. Tip - if you rent a truck with a guide, itā€™s best to do it between 4-5 people to lower the price! Bring snacks too as the restaurants can get a little pricey. Make sure to dress warm!

The National Park is really pretty neat, but dress warmly and plan for wet weather. Going early might give you a view of the volcano. We went to a lake and took a short hike there.

A stunning national park which should be better known internationally given its beauty, landscape and mountains, although the fact that its lesser known means you can enjoy the experience with little impact from other tourists.

The road up to the volcano is in good shape and the views are spectacular. Beware of the elevation, you can really feel it as soon as you arrive, and the walk to the refuge (about 1 km) can be daunting for some.

What a great time visiting this pristine and historic park in the Valley of Volcanos. One can climb Volcan Cotopaxi or Volcan Ruminahui
