Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow amazing place and such a beautiful lake. I really enjoyed my day in Bacalar lake.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make some shopping due to the fact that they didn’t accept credit cards.

Make no mistake, this is still a town built for tourism but very low-key. Nobody is accosting you on the sidewalks to buy their sailing tours, and it's not a crazy party atmosphere. There are plenty of restaurants at all price points as well as hotels. You can arrange a variety of activities and day tours as well as just finding the public access to lagoon and wade and swim all day in the crystal clear water. Spend a peso and walk the boardwalk to look for the alligator while getting amazing views.

Beautiful Lake so many different colors of blue. We enjoy exploring the different spots our captain took us to Bird Island , Sand Bar, and the Cenote.

Simply stunning. A piece of hidden Mexican tranquillity and beauty.

So pleased to visit before this place becomes overrun with tourists.

Ponton boat out that stopped for us to get out and swim/walk about in the water was just magical. Beautiful colours. It was really worth the 3 hour ride from Playa del Carmen.

The water was the prettiest I’ve seen in all my travels. It looks like the Caribbean yet it is freshwater. A restaurant there called La playita was amazing atmosphere and fantastic food. We will be back.

My husband and I reserved a pontoon boat the night before for 12 pm.They messaged that morning to ask if we could go at 11 and we agreed. We had paid a deposit the night before and we arrived 20 minutes early, paid the rest and were told to wait on the dock. More guests came and filled up the boat and we were left without seats while the recruiter and boat captain argued because we had come first. Anyway it wasn’t resolved and we got our money back and left to search for another company after having wasted the morning.

Bacalar has not yet been discovered by the big crowds and hopefully stays that way. The lagoon is spectacular with its crystal clear watr. Don't forget to go to the "Rapidos", it is an event you will not likely forget anytime soon.

This is a fabulous place to visit. The lake itself is about 30 miles long by 1 mile wide and it is full of gorgeous places to visit.

A boat tour here is simply a must. Even when it rained the lake was still beautiful, and when the sun shines it is a staggeringly beautiful place to be, with waters like The Maldives, but in a lake!

You can arrange a private boat with roof and its own captain for 750 pesos. This price is for the boat, not per person, and it can hold up to 12 people, although i think the price would vary for more people. We had 4 of us on the boat for the price we got. Its cheaper to get from a boat tour from an tour operator directly, as opposed to using your accommodation to book a tour. The prices can vary wildly when you start to use hotels to book your tour. It's simple and easy to book a tour down at the lake from one of the many tour operators that are there.

On the tour itself we visited Cenote Azul, Cocalitos, Pirates channel and more. Cocalitos and Pirates Channel are simply gorgeous and are a must see on a boat tour. There are other places to visit if you wish to do so.

Highly recommended, go for it!
