Great walking in the different areas, fern garden, spice garden, palm collection, orchids, etc. Ask where the fruit bats literally "hang out". Even during the day these huge creatures fly around, flap their wings while hanging upside down in the tall trees. It's great fun.

Only drawback was not enough time to see everything we wanted, I never knew bats could be so big! Do not miss the beautiful orchid house. It's a great spot to people watch as well, we went on a Sunday and the place was fill with courting couples! If you have time take a picnic but watch the monkeys don't... More

An oasis in Kandy. The Royal Botanical Gardens used to be the Royal pleasure gardens in 1843. Trees and more trees. Open space. Birds and more birds. A cool place!

Great place to wander around in the shade. Orchid house was lovely. Came across a family of monkeys having a lovely time playing together. Also saw hundreds of fruit bats. Costs more for tourists to visit than locals!

This truly is an oasis, its just so peaceful, Its on the must see list and some of the sights, plants, its just wonderful. The highlight for me was the bats, in the daytime. They are huge, sat there for ages just watched them and listened, they make quite a noise. The place is teaming with school children, and people... More

I was a little skeptical about coming to the gardens, especially when I noticed the rather large sign stating the different entrance fee for locals and foreigners. I understand this happens throughout Sri Lanka, and indeed other countries, but the mark-up for foreigners is huge. However, once inside, I was pleasantly surprised about how big the gardens were. We walked... More

This place is simply WOW! Amazing trees, flying foxes on the trees and flying around. Children had a time of their life running around, observing the plants and animals. You could spend a whole day here and still find something that amazes you. You shouldn't miss this, if you are in Kandy. it's a must see!

The Royal Botanical Gardens is amazing in exhibiting more than 4000 species of plants with a beautiful landscape and well maintained lawns. There are sections of Palm trees, well famous renowned Orchids, Cactus plants, Succulents, Climbers, Runners, Bushes,Shrubs, Trees, Medicinal Plants, Spices and Water Plants etc. However the ticketing gate keepers are not a match to the Royal Botanical Garden’s...
