We always knew land crossings are not easy, but going from our night halt at an yurt camp at Tash Rabat was quite pleasant. The pass is not distinctive, just a gently rounded hump. The really tiresome bit comes after your Chinese transport comes up...More

Trying to get from Kashgar to Naryn is quite an ordeal. But once you get across the border, a fabulous place awaits. The drive down the valley on the Kyrg side is breathtakingly beautiful. It compares to the Alps and the Rockies in grandeur.

If your looking to go from China to Kyrgyzstan or from Kyrgyzstan to China it's not always easy to get across the boarder. Make sure to plan ahead and make sure you trust your tour company! I used Kubat-Tour in Naryn City to help me...More

My wife and I had no problem. But if she is prone to altitude sickness, she will probably suffer at Torugart, it's 12300 ft. And you're likely to be there for an extended period of time, since the border routine is grueling... More
