Description:

Established in the 19th Century by John Powell Powell and his successors,...

Established in the 19th Century by John Powell Powell and his successors, Quex Park is an historic country estate of over 1,800 acres in Birchington-on-Sea on the stunning Kent coast near Margate. Quex Park has in more recent times developed a bespoke leisure destination for all the family to enjoy.

Within the Park there is a Children's Indoor and Outdoor Play Centre, a Craft Village, a Garden Nursery, Quex Carriages, Quex Paintball, Build-a-base, Laser Rush, Quex Barn Farmshop and Restaurant and in the summer, a giant Maize Maze along with a packed and exciting annual events calendar for the whole family to enjoy.

One of Quex Park's best known visitor attractions is the Powell-Cotton Museum, Quex House & Gardens, which attracts visitors from near and far to engage with its eclectic mix of world-class natural history, World Cultures and Asian art. Its natural history collections are of world-class importance as a scientific resource. The Museum as well as Quex House and Gardens are open to the public and is one of the best things to do in the Canterbury area. Within the grounds there is also a beautiful wedding and functions venue Mama Feelgoods Boutique Cafe

Entry onto Quex Park is free, and each leisure facility that makes up the destination has its own opening hours and admission fees where applicable. Please see the Quex Park website for further details.

Not only is the museum and the park amazing, but kind and friendly volunteers make a difference in this unexpectedly pleasant very English tour. Have a look at the coffee shop and ask for their exceptional carrot cake! It's really worth the visit itself!

We're so happy that you had a pleasant visit! I will pass your lovely comments about our volunteers on to the team, it's always great to have positive feedback from our visitors. We love the carrot cake at Mama Feelgood's too! People do come specifically for a slice of cake there, they are very yummy indeed! We look forward to... More

I visited here with my 3 yr old daughter and partner. I had no clue what the museum contained so it was a real surprise once we got there. Our visit was during term time so there was very few other visitors, which was obviously fab. The highlights for me are the extra touches to make the trip for under... More

Hello, We're so glad that you had a great visit to the Powell-Cotton Museum & Quex Gardens. Our Rumpus backpacks are a great hit with our visitors who are under 5yrs, so I'm happy that your daughter enjoyed exploring the museum with one of those! For older children, we also have our Rumble around with Rumpus trail which is great... More

Quex Park has something for everyone. it's an old manor house with beautifully landscaped grounds but the museum is the star of the show housing a bonkers collection of stuffed African wildlife blasted to oblivion by a boy's own posh bloke from the past. He also amassed a tramp steamer load of tribal artifacts and weaponary from the early 20th... More

My friend suggested Quex Park. I looked it up on Google - their website is impressive. Garden centre, Restaurant with local food, Cafe, 7 day a week craft village, natural history museum. Sounded like a good day out. But the barn had burnt down with the restuarant in it - no mention of this on the website. The craft centre... More

We are sorry to hear that your visit to Quex Park was not a good experience. Quex Barn suffered a fire back in October and is currently under going a full refurbishment, which is currently on schedule to be completed by Easter. We hope that when you return to the park on a warmer day, your experience is much better... More

Written this after visiting Quex again, this time for a wedding reception. It's a truly amazing place and deserves much wider recognition. To be honest, you have to get over the fact that you are looking at actual dead and stuffed animal in the impressive dioramas. It is not something we would do now, so the original context is important... More

Hi, Thank you so much for your 5/5 review. We're glad you enjoyed seeing the Powell-Cotton Museum, House & Gardens as part of a wedding reception here. You're right, we have to look at the collections differently now as it was all done in a different time when what Percy Powell-Cotton was doing was widely accepted. I'm happy you liked... More

The museum is laid out with large display cases filled with lifelike scenarios of various animals and various types of jungle. There are several rooms with collections of artifacts collected by Col. Powell Cotton.from his travels in Africa. There is a souvenir shop and a rather nice restaurant. Also right by the entrance to the property is a farmers market.... More

Poorly signposted, poorly managed. Very disappointing as this was my first visit to Quex Park and I had heard good things about it. I visited specifically for the Spirit of Christmas event - Breakfast with Santa and Ice skating. After following signs for parking and following signs for Santa we were then told we were in the wrong spot and... More

I'd meant to visit this for years and finally had a couple of hours in Birchington with two grand children to entertain. It is disgraceful that some rich Englishman went out there and just shot everything that moved bur they were different times. The displays themselves were very well organised and the "animals" were in very good condition. Wish I'd... More

Hi, I'm glad you're looking forward to coming back, and that you enjoyed the displays. I understand that it can be upsetting to see the animals on display, but as you said, it was all done in a different time. We can, however, use the collections we have to support ongoing research. We are currently working with several researchers from... More
