Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We’d been swimming in the sea for a week and it was beautifully clean and clear (at the eastern/harbour end of the beach). Then on Thursday 13th June 2024 around midday, whilst swimming, we noticed the sea started getting lots of bubbles and scum in it. When trying to wade back to the beach we were walking through liquid faeces - it was everywhere and there was no avoiding it - actual brown, stringy poo everywhere in the sea, it was disgusting!!
A man told us the sewage pipe exits near where you normally see all the seagulls feeding further out, but for whatever reason it polluted the beach area.
Yesterday, Friday 14th June, the sea was still a bit murky and there was some scummy drifts of faeces floating about. I walked from the harbour round to the lifeguard tower and couldn’t find a completely clear part.
It’s shocking that people are still swimming and putting their faces in the water.

Great hotel location on the beach. Wonderful and. Very helpful manager and staff from start to finish. Rooms cleaned everyday and variety with all meals! Many return customers are friendly and entertainment most nights. Would definitely return again

Good size beach with nice sand and (on most days) very clear, fairly calm sea (though if the wind really gets up, the sea can get quite rough). Plenty of sunbeds/umbrellas (free in at least some cases provided you buy food/drinks from the associated taverna/bar). Busier to the right of the car park than to the left. Tarverna Gryalos to the left is excellent.

Be Warned. The sewage works is now smelly and discharging to to sea, that's when it is not overflowing down the street. We have a doughter living out there, so have got enough warning in time to change our destination, having alredy booked for June 2024. Shame as we liked it there.

This is an easy beach to access, large car park at the eastern end, beach loungers provided free by restaurants/ bars for their customers. The seabed slopes gradually and is mostly sandy. In late May the temperature was great and the water seemed clean.

Beautiful clean beach, with umbrellas free if you buy a drink. Given a score of 3 because there is a river that runs into the sea, which means the sea is cold and then warm, which I didn't like. Maybe in the peak of summer it is very welcome!

At the end of Kalyves Beach, the Banana bar nestles in the shallow end of the sea. The very rude staff told me that i would have to pay 5 euros to occupy a sunbed and that was before i put all my stuff down. I asked him, in that case, if I ordered something, the sunbed would be free. Oh, no, he said, you're occupying 2 sunbeds, so you must pay. Every other bar on the beach offers free sunbeds to customers, but not this bunch, they're out to get your money. He pointed to a sign at the far end if the beach, which was not in a orominent position and hidden from the customers who are trusting enough to just turn up and sit on a sunbed, order a drink and then oay through the nose for a truly substandard service, which, although non existent, wouldn't matter a jot! Thoroughly unpleasant people. Every other bar offers a beach service where they will bring your drinks. Not these people, you buy your drinks, wait and then take them to your own sunbed. Now i don't mind carrying my own drinks, it was just the bad attitude of the guy. I love Kalyves, I live here, but to be treated in such a bad way, they certainly deserve this mention. There were others receiving the same sort of treatment, but wouldn't say much. After all, they won't be going there tomorrow. All I can say about this bar, is that it is a caravan, with some very substandard plastic chairs, tables and now, substandard staff and probably owners. After all, somebody has to train the staff, don't they?

We have visited this hotel every year since 2000 and have always had a very good holiday. However, last year 2018 we had arranged a trip by taxi for a very special occasion. We booked the taxi with the receptionist Penelope and the next day after waiting were told that we could not go as the taxi had broken down. It was not until we were going home that we discovered that this was not true and that reception had forgotten to book until it was too late and all taxis had been booked!!! I sent an E mail to the manager explaining. What had happened and how we had been told downright lies but no response. After all these years, we have not been back!! Motto, if you want something done, do it yourself?

Great beach, clean, soft sand, shallow water. Preferred the far side near to the jetty, water calmer and a bit quieter, although all the beach was never too busy that it was unpleasant. Beach beds very reasonable and some free if you are eating at nearby restaurants.
