I couldn't really rate this, as we got the bus to Carmacha to find the wicker factory has been temporarily closed since March for quarantine measures. Not much else to do in this sleepy little village so got the next bus back to Funchal!

While the 'factory' is a large shop with 2-3 floors where the weavers are right at the bottom working away (there were 3 people on the day we visited), the items they make are amazing. All kinds of baskets, wicker furniture, dividers, mirror frames... as it is handmade, the price is corresponding but it's not hugely expensive.
The most interesting fact is that the furniture is completely sustainable and environment friendly - more shops / retailers need to distribute these!

We drove there and spent longer looking for parking than time in the "factory". The factory is two cement rooms with a bunch of baskets. No order- looked more like a garage sale event. Not worth it. This seems like it was a shop that may have belonged in a different era. It was sad and sparse.

Stopped here on a coach trip and sounded very interesting but it was a warehouse of three floors of mainly different sizes of baskets and one floor of large items. One man sitting in a corner weaving.
Not worth the 45 minutes allotted to see round it.

Part of the East tour seems all coaches stop. Not a lot of point as most tourists wouldn’t get goods on a plane. Only needed a quick stop. Says factory briefly see one person weaving wasn’t worth the stop seems all these tours have to find a “local “ industry to stop at. Wouldn’t go out of the way to recommend

We travel independently on the island and have done so for many years. This is the first time we have been accosted by some body for money. He followed us back and tried to force his way into the vehicle. We have used the term beggar but he was well dressed, clean and fed. Did appear to be under the influence. Have told our owner relations at Pestana but doubt this will be reported. Please take care.

We went here along our day trip from Funchal to Santana. It kind of justified our decision for this trip, because reviews on Santana being worth it were iffy. Santana was OK, but this factory was just a total waste of time. we saw some of the unusual items shown in the photo (like the animal heads), but overall, there were just a few items available, in large piles on tables. I really wanted to want to buy something but couldn't wait to leave.

Luckily for us we were on a private taxi tour as this is the sort of place holiday coach trips stop at for 45 minutes. At least it is in the centre of a town and not isolated.
Our driver had avoided early morning visit as this is when all the coaches pull in apparently. This meant less crowds but less action in factory as very few tourists in there.
Set in a small town but due to the weather (rain) we didn’t feel like exploring.
Factory has a cafe but it is really just one large showroom and we didn’t feel inclined to buy.

A nice location for a short visit.Although this factory is included in some of the island tours we decided to go on the local bus from Funchal.Camacha is a pretty Village with an interesting modern church. The wicker factory has many items for sale but there is no pressure to purchase anything If you just wish to browse around. It is possible to watch some items being made by local artisans.

Camacha is a beautiful village with a large central square set out with lovely flowers.
There was a small indoor market selling flowers and fruit/veg. Great play park for children in centre.
Toilets.
Cafe outside or restaurant inside the clock place. We sat outside and had omelette and steak sandwich - very nice. This is next to the wicker factory - downstairs is a demonstration of wicker making. On other 2 floors are some amazing large and small items for sale. Also a few items of pottery and food for sale too.
