Wonderful volcanic cave that you have access from a series of stairs to a sulfur lake with and active fumerole. Depending on the CO2 levels, you have access nearer the lake. We were the only ones there so totally enjoyed ourselves.

another one of the azores amazing volcanoes/caves. It is a steep walk to the bottom but it is a nice experience and weird to be so deep underground

Glad we stopped by and walked the trails here as well. Easy hike to the bottom, not too closed in if you don't like tight spaces. The observation center is neat and provided a lamented history of the volcano in many different languages. 2€ per...More

The visitor centre is a modern and interesting design, and the staff were very courteous. The caves are exactly what you might expect and quite impressive, but as other reviewers have said due to CO2 levels you can't get particularly close to the lake. Very...More

Graciosa is a very quiet island and there really is little to do there apart from watersports, fishing and walking! When we visited it was impossible to see the lake as the level of fumes meant it was not safe to get too close, but...More

A really big cave, with warning system for CO2 which can leak out. You can only visit a specific area down there, still it's interesting to see, and the tower climb an experience. The visitors center is well made and the whole crater area on...More

The descent into the volcanic cavern is quite a unique experience. It's incredibly cheap, but then most things here seem to be very reasonably priced. The stone turret and winding steps down are interseting in themselves, but the anti diluvian feel to the cavern was...More
