Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Don't waste your money on this attraction. The entrance fee gives you access to the Church (but you can't go inside) as well as being able to walk in the park. It's very limited hours so when we went, we didn't have enough time to walk the park as we didn't know it was only open from 10-3.

The Church is a waste of time really. You can see all you want from the road that looks inside. The doors are gated so you can't go inside and it's really just a miniature church where the owner of the church had it built as a tomb for his wife and himself.

It actually had really bad vibes.

We arrived at 4:30 pm to visit the Church and were denied access because they were closing. The timetable both online and on the chapel door informs you that the closing time is 5pm.

Even though we asked to just visit the Church, which would be a quick thing, we were denied in a completely indifferent way. It's a shame because we purposely took the detour and are leaving 30 minutes away. before the closure of the monument without visiting it.

You don't need to walk up close to the chapel to see its beauty. You can get some great pictures just by walking on the path or a bit further away from the shore of the lake. However, if you want to walk up close, a 100 yards further is a booth where you can purchase tickets for Jose do Canto Garden for 2 Euro's. The tickets allow you to walk up to the Gothic chapel and through the magnificent gardens. As to the chapel, it is generally closed, however we were lucky that there was a private tour going on (no clue as to how to arrange this) so we were allowed a peak. It looks much older than it actually is (1886). Anyway, just walking around it is a treat. The owner of the park (Jose do Canto) and his wife are buried here.

Lovely chapel on the southern bank of Lake Furnas. It's located in the Jose do Canto Forest Garden however you don't need to enter the park to have a closer look.
At the time of our visit the chapel was closed.

This chapel was ordered built by a rich landowner as a burial place for his ill wife so it's like a Taj Mahal. The style is a gothic cathedral only much smaller and sits on the shore of Lagos das Furnas. It was completed in 1882 and when the owner died he was buried beside his wife within the chapel. It is private and closed but still a good place to come and see from the outside.

Such a nice chapel in the lake area of Furnace. Beautiful location which I highly recommend visiting. Free parking lot nearby and lots to see around.

Really cool church that isn't as old as it looks. You also have to pay to get into the botanical gardens that it is a part of, however you can easily see it from outside the fence and we didn't feel like we missed all that much by not going in.

Nice natural setting, unfortunately (even though we were early) the custodians didn't want to let us into the chapel, saying they were closing in 30 minutes.

An old gothic chapel in contrast to most of the drab looking catholic buildings on the island, all looking very much identical. This does stand out, standing on east shore of Lagoa Furnas, with a large garden. With its old unpolished stone bell tower and chapel with stained glass, it blends eerily well with the woods behind it.
