You do not need to hire a guide to walk through the park. We went on our own and saw many species of animals and birds in the 3 and 1/2 hours we walked. We saw monkeys, macaws, toucans, regular birds, frogs, sloths and other interesting creatures and beautiful foliage. Pay the $10 and walk on your own. Well work... More

We drove to Manuel Antonio for the park experience. While it was ok, we decided to stop at Carara National Park on our way north. It was well worth the stop! Much less crowded and we felt as though we had the trail to ourselves much of the walk. It has handicapped accommodations, too. We saw macaws, spider monkeys, howlers... More

The three hours we spent touring the trails was amazing. So much wildlife if you just slow down, remain quiet and bring a set of binoculars.

I did a tour today (April, 7th) with guide Victor Mora. The tour was set around mid day which is not the best time to see animals, because they are usually hiding during their siesta! But from my side it was the only time I could make to the park. Nevertheless, we were lucky and enjoyed watching beautiful red aras,... More

Our guide Franklin was truly expert and worked hard to help us experience and see some of the birds flying overhead in the canopy. The toucans were fast but we captured a brilliant video of them in the end! Kids loved it. Thank you!!

Managed to see Scarlet Macaw & Spider Monkey but other than Ants & Bats that was about it. OK for quick visit but was expecting more.

We hired Enrique as our guide through our hotel for a daylong birdwatching walk. He was outstanding, extremely knowledgable and very pleasant. He was adept at locating the birds, which are very cryptic and hard to find on our own. He also knew them all by call, which helped immensely in locating them. One trail at the park entrance is... There is a tremendous amount to see in Carara Park, especially if you are interested in the birds of Costa Rica. For birders, I would highly recommend Johan Chavez as your guide. Brilliant young man who knows the birds and all other aspects of Carara and Costa Rica natural history. We spent two days with him and loved the trip.... More
