- mortimertravelsHouston, Texas38 contributionsPeaceful surroundings and views when not crowdedThe views from the lighthouse were nice and the drive there was scenic. It was nice to see the other side of the island and all it has to offer. There is a small parking lot and the lighthouse is just short walk away. There are some rocks to climb around/over so exercise caution when doing so. We were there in the middle of the day so it was not crowded, although it wasn't empty either. It's a nice place to just stand and take in your surroundings and appreciate what you are seeing. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy nice views.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 November 2023
- Tom DayCamberley, United Kingdom112 contributionsWorth The Visit for the sceneryLovely views from the cliff surrounding the lighthouse. Unfortunately it was closed when we arrived but the lighthouse looks great as do the views from around it. Definitely worth the visit to see something new on the island. Easy to get to. If you have slight walking disability then I wouldn't recommend the trek around the lighthouse rocks.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 June 2024
- K MKCarterton, United Kingdom156 contributionsIt's something to see.Well it's an old lighthouse, on the most western point of the south. Nothing fancy. Remember to park over on the right before the little road up and it's soon got congested with tourists. There's a burger van but it wasn't opened when we visited at 1500 on a Friday.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 July 2024

Do you want to take a good view of the sunset without paying extortionate prices in Oia or Thira? Do you want to have a complete unobstructed view of it?
This is the place to go if you have a car or some means of transportation.
Park a little behind on the road, be sure to be there at least 30 minutes before the sunset and bring some good shoes as the road is...well, rugged.
Nothing really interesting in the Lighthouse, but the view is excellent.
Ah, there is a small van serving ice creams and drinks..

The lighthouse itself and surrounding ground is fine. But as per other reviews the views from the lighthouse are breath taking and beautiful. We went on our buggy and thought why not, we were very glad to go. There’s one tiny care for food and drinks. But otherwise it’s a small area but worth a short walk out and up to the edge of the land for the views. It’s free no entry fee and parking is limited if you went at a busy time.

We saw some absolutely beautiful sunrises and sunsets during our trip but this one topped them all. It was amazing! From the rocks in front of the lighthouse you can see an unobstructed view right out over the sea to the sun setting. I would recommend getting here early as we go there for 7L30pm and it was already getting busy for the sunset at around 8:30pm. Wear trainers or proper shoes as although it’s not a long walk its difficult and rocky and also very dangerous as there’s no barriers and it’s a huge drop over the side. Be prepared to sit on rocks, although they’re quite large rocks so not too uncomfortable. We walked here as our hotel was nearby but if you’re taking a car/quad again you would need to get there early to get parking and also try to leave as soon as it sets to get out quickly as it was one big rush afterwards. There is a little cafe/bar that sells beer and cocktails although we bought our own

Incredible views of the Aegean Sea and of Santorini. Some good photo opportunities. I came just after 11.30am and the cafe was already open with an impressive selection of food and drinks, and small shaded seated area.
N.B. There’s no path and the rocks are dusty and rugged. There’s no safety barriers or railings.

Maybe its because a 5000 pax cruise ship pulled into the caldera today but the crowd was over the top tonight for sunset. Must have been several hundred cars, plus quads and motorbikes by the dozen, We left a bit before sunset to avoid the inevitable traffic jam. Super windy and cold too so if you go bring a blanket.
The sun sets over the water, not behind the islands, so its really not the best viewpoint for sunsets. Much better and way less crowded, plus closer to town, is the parking lot at the top of the road leading down the hill to Athoni port.

It’s a bit out of the way but if you have your own drive you should not miss this. Go armed with trekking shoes - it’s almost end of island and a must do. There is a small cafe just before the lighthouse stretch - you can take some princely snaps while there. Walk right to the edge and enjoy the effort and view. It’s something which is not a common thing to do while at santorini but for those who are adventurous - it’s a treat.

The location is way out there, as you might expect for a lighthouse. Easy to find. There are many places to stop prior to getting there if you want to eat and watch the sunset. At the lighthouse itself, which is not open, you sit on the rocks around it and watch the sunset. Quite a few people go there for it but not a huge number. Then of course everyone leaves at once to go back. Worth a trip.

We visited here in a hire car while visiting the Akrotiri prehistoric site, but actually spent nearly as much time here as we did there. There is a small car park a short walk up to the lighthouse, which doesn't look particularly spectacular or attractive. The thing that makes this is the view - and as this is right on the end of the island you can look out across multiple islands, and see right across to Oia across the caldera. Phrase of the day was "I wish I'd brought some binoculars"...
It's rocky, and there are no barriers to stop you falling to the rocks, so keep kids close.
There is a snack cabin. No toilets though, so go before...

We truly loved driving down the coast and seeing the lighthouse at the end. It is a quick and simple trip, but offers stunning views. It was very hot in June, so go early if you can. Hike out and around the rocks for some amazing photos!

Hello) can anyone tell me where from it is possible to see the lighthouse? Any village?
Written 22 October 2019
The Lighthouse itself is NOT much to see! People only go there to enjoy the amazing views from the cliffs surrounding the lighthouse-grounds.
Written 25 October 2019
NO, Entrance to the Lighthouse is strictly forbidden since it is the property of the Greek Navy.

Come ci si arriva dalla RED BEACH?
Written 26 September 2017

How far is it from red beach? Can I go by feet? Thank you!
Written 31 July 2017
No walk is very far away, the red beach is near to Akrotiri excavation. The lighthouse is exactly on the tip to the west of Akrotiri.

Le phare est loin d akrotiri? Peut on y aller a pieds? (J y serai en septembre).merci
Written 21 August 2016

The Lighthouse is in the sud of Santorini island! You need to rent a car or a scooter to go, because
It is on the tip of the island. It is in a very high position and you have to drive for 20/25 minutes (from Thira), but the view is amazing expecially during the sunset! You have to visit absolutely!

Is the lighthouse open for entrance? If so, can the general public go to the top?
Written 19 June 2015
Everyone else answered. We walked from Astarte Suites to the light house. I took a backpack full of goodies and we sat on the rocks and took in the view The lighthouse was closed off. On our walk back to hotel we stopped at a roadside store that gave away samples of their products. We of course bought all kinds of stuff and I had a few beers. Be sure to check them out.
