Whilst no Acropolis, this is a nice site that is not very busy with tourist hence a more intimate feel. Archeological site and museum is well kept and explanations informative (in Greek and English). Entrance fee was very reasonable and staff were friendly.

This site has it all... grounds to walk, a semi-standing temple that gives visitors a sense of scale and place, a well-organized and well-signed museum and easy parking. The only hard part is finding the place. There is no sign on the road to explain that entry to the Temple sight is through the archaeological museum for which there are some faded signs; it's well worth the small struggle to get there.

Brauron consists of an ancient sanctuary to Artemis, and a museum. Getting there is not the easiest, and was complicated by the fact that the guidebooks are now all out of date in this respect. Those few that mention Brauron at all tell you to go to Ethniki Amyna metro station on line 3 and get the 304 bus from there. With the opening of the new metro station at Nomismatokopio, however, a new bus station has been opened there, and it is to that metro that you now need to go. The bus station is modern and easy to use, with a helpful ticket kiosk. One thing to watch out for is that the 304 and 305 both start from the same stop, but can switch numbers at the last minute before departure.
You take the 304 bus right to the end of the line (somewhat over an hour) at the Hotel Mare Nostrum in Loutsa. From there it is about about 20-30 minutes walk to the sites and museum (not together, but on either side of a hill, with separate entrances). There are signs from the bus stop, but I would print out a map, and look at the area on Google Earth before going. The site is small, but outstanding. Carefully restored and preserved, it gives a very good idea of a Greek sanctuary. The Museum is again small (6 rooms), but with some very good stuff in it.
A little way away from the Site (10 minutes walk) are the surprisingly substantial remains of an early Christian basilica. Unfortunately fenced off and inaccessible, but still worth a look from the outside
The whole area is by an estuary (you can actually walk across this between the museum and the Mare Nostrum – it is a pleasant walk, with maps displayed on notice boards. Take a fairly steep descending path right next to the Hotel). There are some great views, and all in all it is a very pleasant and interesting excursion from Athens, that is quite easy to do once you know where you are going. A shop opposite the bus stop can supply drinks, ice creams etc.

Such an amazing site and museum! We were so blessed to make it in time to visit both the site and museum. The museum has some beautiful pieces and lots of great history. The site was a little walk down the road but easy to get to and it's tucked away in this shady cool valley and it's just wonderful. So very different than the locations in Athens it;s really is an amazing site to visit and learn about and I highly recommend it.

Unfortunately very little remained of the Temple. On top of that it was not a good idea to set a metal(???) walkway to walk around the Temple. I was under the impression I am buying a poor imitation of possible emotions...

Because of the current restoration project on this site you can not walk around the temple but you can see it from a few different angels from the road and a trail. There is a museum at the site but unless you really love museums with Greek artifacts it's not worth the price of admission because all the museums connected with archeological sites in Greece seem to all look the same after a while. If you have a good guide they can tell you all about the myths connected with this site. I highly recommend that when you leave the city of Athens for a day trip outside the city you include this little site in your itinirary.

Wow! Beautiful little place of history so close to our hotel.

Great site, well preserved given that its 2500 years old. The nature around it is beautiful and overall is definitely worth visiting together with the museum if you are in the area.

We just wandered to the grounds as they closed, so we didn't get to see the museum - but the temple is located in wetland so there is a great walking trail that leads back to the temple. Even though it was closed you could see it from the fence, if we had more time we probably would have wandered back but too much to do, not enough time.

Does anyone have information on opening hours at the Temple of Artemis in September? The website says that summer opening hours are 0900-1600 except Tuesdays, but lists 2020 dates:

We have 5hrs in between our flights to Corfu, would that be enough time to go here and see both the temple and museum? Google is saying its only 20 mins by car to get there,

Yes! We rented car at airport for a few hours, drove to sight and visited museum. We also added lunch later, but you could return rental and have lunch at airport. Lovely site and experience. See my photos of site with my TA review.

I am thinking about visiting the Temple of Artemis in Vravrona during a six hour layover at the airport. The opening hours posted online are 8:30 - 15:00 Tuesday - Sunday, but it is not clear if they apply to the museum or to the site as a whole. Is there a way to visit the temple grounds outside of those hours, or is it inaccessible? Thanks!

I just called the museum. The visiting hours are 8:30 - 15:00 Tuesday - Sunday indeed and they apply BOTH to the museum and the archaeological site of Brauron.
