Hidden in the centre of the island (where the skies are clearest) is an audacious privately funded project to create an observatory and a range of telescopes. It is open,we visited tonight as it only open on Friday and Saturday nights manned by volunteers, or private groups by appointment.Although small ,it has. Planetarium, meteroite display and the opportunity to view the... More

We had an English tour, with just 12 others, 5 of them kids, the staff member spoke excellent English and made a real effort to explain everything to the kids and get them involved. He also did the entire voice over for the actual presentation! We got to see Saturn through a telescope and the milkyway with the naked eye!... More

We went here last night for an English speaking tour with exhibits, planetarium virtual presentation, and views of stellar bodies through the telescopes on site. Perfect for all - the virtual planetarium guide is a must for any enthusiasts - and then we all took turns viewing the moon, Mars, and Saturn up close through the telescopes. Cheap and definitely... Good night out, friendly staff and a great meteorite exhibition. Clear skies were a bonus, being able to see the Milky Way with the naked eye is always nice from this Londoner! Thanks to Lem for delivering a fun talk with great enthusiasm and in good English for every level, suitable for kids too. And that was despite a toothache... More

English lessons are each friday and saturday evening (I think) and it cost 15E for adult. It is good to call to telephone number on planetarium web sites and book the lesson.

My mum and me visited the observatory in Costitx last October. We booked the visit the day before via e-mail, which was no problem. We had a tour in English with two other German families, led by Joan. It was fantastic! Joan's tour was very entertaining and a lot of fun. He didn't only explain everything in good English, but... We managed to book to come to the planetarium on a Spanish evening out of tourist season, without checking, for a film about the moon! Needless to say the presentation wasn't in English, but Guilliame was so kind and stayed late to explain everything to us in English so that we understood and knew what was going on. The team...
