As the first wine and brewing estate in the southern hemisphere, we run a small but growing micro brewery, water bottling plant, winery and vineyard situated in the Western Cape of South Africa. We have much to offer, not only to the beer and wine enthusiast, but to those just interested in visiting our beautiful country estate near Stanford in the shadow of the Klein Rivier mountains. Here you will find out about our exceptional beer, our country estate, our brewery. As of September 2015 the restaurant is under new management called "Birkenhead Galley" separately listed in Trip advisor by the new owners.

Come and enjoy our delicious food and freshly brewed beer, and visit our vineyard and winery where we produce Walker Bay Vineyards wines.

Being amateur beer makers, we booked a brewery tour and beer tasting over the Easter weekend. However, the tour did not take place since the brew master was absent without any notice (due to a personal problem we discovered later.) So we settled for the beer tasting. The beers were interesting and the tasting was well presented (with ample amounts... More

Amazing wines, the craft beer were some of the best I've ever tasted. The food was really nice and a great warm welcoming and hospitality from the GM, Paul. Lots of great things to come from this Estate :)

I was looking forward to this visit. From the non existent greeting at the door to the final attempt to purchase merchandise at the shop the entire experience was poor. The service was very slow and the waiters seemed tired and non responsive . There was no engagement with regards to describing the wine or beer tasters. We were told... More

This place is very nice, had the beer fish and the batter was not too thick which is nice. Only complaint is the play area for the kids, could be a little bigger, also the one small fountain water is not really pleasant as it has some algae growing in it, could use a bit of a cleanup, but other... Beautiful setting on the Kleinrivier. Food good, but not great. Beer decent, but craft beer has come a long way in the last 5 to 10 years and there are a lot of good beer out there these days. Their beer tasting setup is very professional and efficient. Many microbreweries can learn from them in this regard. Waitresses were friendly.... More

Taking clients to the beer tasting, there's no fuss or detailed explanations. It's uncomplicated just sitting down to the brewery's six best beers and stout, with a written explanation on the tray provided explaining what there is. Good fun for the true beer lover who will appreciate this experience. The children are also well entertained on the grass lawns with... More

This is the Stanford version ( as opposed to Birkenhead House hotel in Hermanus) and Birkenhead point/lighthouse etc - all named after the troopship which went aground in the 19th century. Anyway, the brewery produces a range of ales and lagers named, yes you've guessed it, Birkenhead. Now if this was America they would have trademarked the original Wirral town... More
