Although there isn't much to do on the top station, it is worth going there for the magnificant views. Plan 1,5-2 hours for the circular walking tour. A lot of constrction work going on there. Free with Karnten card, so take advantage of that.

Our surprise started at the cash-box, when the cashier asked us about the time of our detour trip. At first, we didn't understand the question, so she informed us: we couldn't take any hike upstairs because of the construction works. Well, the ride was "free-of-charge", because we had Kaernten Card and we went up. The funicular was very interesting -... More

Finished work one day earlier and had the chance to ride the funicular from 719 m over sea level to 2237m. Breathtaking view up there. You will not regret spending several hours going up.

We used our Kaernten Card to experience this for free and were disappointed. So the initial funicular railway is quite impressive in so much as it is steep - very steep in parts but once you get to the top you are faced with nothing except a narrow gauge track and no signage explaining what happens next. We worked out... More

Fascinating form of transport in two funiculars at some very steep angles followed by a mining train through the mountain to the final destination near the dams. Not particularly comfortable mode of transport on funicular especially if very hot but amazing way of ascending. Travel is timed both up and down, down has to be booked on your ascent. Cars... More
