Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Try naturally carbonated water. You can se small bubbles coming from the ground at the water tap. Mystical! You will find a table showing the mineral content compared with normal/commercial spring water. High mineral content in this water, and the taste is funny. You are asked to leave 200 ISK in coins in a smalll box to try the water.

This is an interesting diversion, signposted from the main road and will only take 5 - 10 minutes. There is a free car park in front of which is a standpipe and tap. The water is naturally carbonated and if you fill a bottle payment of ISK200 is via an honesty box. Personally, I didn't like the taste (very high iron levels as evidenced by the amazing red colour) but I am pleased to have tried it, especially knowing that it is a totally natural phenomenon. Worth stopping for.

This water is good for your health because that's what folks said on the "information sign" based on info from 1904. Weird tasting and will make you laugh...a lot. A 1 min. detour off the main road in the Snaefellsnes Pinninusula. Just go. You won't regret it!

An interesting experience! Natural mineral carbonated water from the ground. Very high in iron so the taste is unusual but not bad.

Spring with sparkling water. You can come and taste sparkling water coming from the underground. It tastes of Fe, but is drinkable, so if you drive around, worth 5 mins a break.

This is one of those quirks of Iceland that make for a great story to bore your friends with back home. If you’re driving to or from the Snaefells peninsula then this is a 5 minute detour about 500m from the main road. There’s a tap in the ground with a small information board and a box to pay Kr200 to the farmer for the privilege of filling your water bottles with sparkling spring water. It may not look fizzy when it comes out but you can taste the bubbles. You will notice the high iron content too and if you leave the water in your bottle overnight you’ll see it rust!

Loved the water!!! Carbonated mineral water water from the ground…it’s easy to get to and fill the bottles.
Filled all 5 of our empty water bottles…didn’t get any pictures as it was -6C and I’m from Florida so too cold to pose for pictures😉

Unlike most carbonated water, which comes from limestones, the fizz in this water has been locked in Earth's mantle since the planet formed. The fizz in your mouth is its first trip to the surface!

Here is a small spring that they plugged up. The sign states it was discovered back in the 1700’s and plugged in 1904. It is a place to fill up your water bottles (200 ISK donation requested). Nothing to see really!

This spring is easy to find and is right off of Route 54. After you turn off the road toward some farmhouses, you will find the spring on your left with an informational sign. It is lightly carbonated and you can see bubbles welling up from the ground, but it doesn't taste super fizzy. It does, however, taste strongly of iron and is reminiscent of slightly bubbly blood. The red color of the ground nearby only reinforces that association. There was an honor-system suggested-donation box asking for 200isk.
Really, if you're driving around Snæfellsnes, it's so easy to stop here for a few minutes that there's no reason not to.
