Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped at the carpark on the 56, heading towards Helgafell, for lunch. From here, located above the lava field, the views are unparalleled for a simple picnic! There are so many lava fields around Iceland, so we didn't spend too much time here, but what a great way to turn a quick stop into an adventure!

We took the time to drive the dirt/gravel road that winds through the lava field and it was absolutely gorgeous. The landscape was otherworldly and it was very interesting to see how it changed as you drove through. The road was not busy at all and I think we encountered maybe one other vehicle in our time there. The road was in decent enough shape and it was easily passable in our small SUV. The contrasting colors were wonderful and it was simply beautiful everywhere you looked. As others briefly mentioned, keep off the moss anywhere in Iceland as it takes a very long time to recover; preserve it for all who visit after you!

The road through this incredible lava field offers stunning views at every stop and from every angle. Be careful of the moss...it takes a long time to grow back.

We found these lava fields really beautiful. Complex rock formations surronded by moss looked like a miniature landscape and the colours were incredibly vivid.

found an obscure reference to this place. Was impressed by the shear expanse of lava black landscape punctuated with bursts of wild flower colors. dramatic view, fun visit, en route on your way back from a day in Snaefellness

Easily missed but worth the drive around on the dirt track. Amazing scenery. Utterly other-worldly. Worth stopping and walking on the sponge-like texture of the ground.

Beautiful area to drive through. It isn't clearly marked by signs as an 'attraction', but we were surprised by the stunning views.

While driving to get to Kirkjufell in the early dark morning in winter, we noticed this eerie landscape and were not sure what it was. When we came back through in the light, they made their appearance. The lava fields were old - 3,000 to 4,000 years. The lava formed unique formations that seemed to stretch for as far as my eyes could see. Very unique and well worth the visit.

The story is vivid and the landscape is eye catching. I very much enjoyed it for the natural and human historical aspects and I would take or recommend it to anyone who like local culture.
