Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Catherdral is very well maintained. A lovely duck egg blue colour on the exterior in a square surrounded by traditional sobrado houses. Inside the design is simple with a single central aisle. If the building is open, it is worth having a quick look.

the color of this church is stunning and wished we could have seen the inside. The church is almost next door to the museum. When you continue walking you will run into a fantastic bakery at the end of the street that overlooks the ocean.

We could see the Igreja Nossa Senhora da Conceiçao (Our Lady of the Conception) from the balcony of our apartment at the 'Casa Beiramar', which is located on the same square.

The church in the colours grey-blue and white and with two bell towers on the sides of the front is in a simple baroque style. It is the towns main ecclesiastical building.

Around the church and the square in front the notables and the more affluent used to once live. Their homes were so-called 'Sobrado's', grand town houses with two storeys and balconies or verandas, to which big French windows were leading. Also typical is the fact that the outer walls of theses houses ended in balustrades around the hipped roof, so that the rare rainwater could be lead inside the house into cisterns.

After many years of neglect the sobrados (as well as the church) have been restored. Some of the sobrados - in various colors - were converted into guesthouses like the 'Casa Beiramar'. Now this whole lower part of town, the 'Bila Baixa', has become the main attraction of São Filipe..

This pretty blue contrasts with the houses in the neighborhood. The church was open because it seemed like a housekeeping day and the 4 women present welcomed me with ease.

Oh the beautiful religious building, moreover this blue highlights it, unfortunately closed during our visit, but this church proudly sits on this small square up high giving it its true value.
