but as long as you can do those two things - and understand enough French to cobble together what is explained - the tour is worth it if you are interested in leather (I combine leather work with my felt, so I have an interest...More

The Tanneries at Taroudant is one of the places you really should visit - but may well regret visiting. The aroma of freshly tanned animal skins is all-pervading and the chemical used did no favours for our western lungs - recovering from pneumonia. Catch them...More

Very interesting site, great tour (if you can stand the smell). Great craftmansship and excellent prices. Other than some reviewers write, they only have cow, sheep, and dromedar fur. They also sell cow fur PAINTED as zebras and leopards, which we found a great idea,...More

Not just another factory tour. A taste for all your senses, overwhelming, odoriferous, and quite an eyeful. The guides of course take you to their favorite bazaar shop to view the finished leather products. They need their commission from the shopkeeper, so be aware the...More

Don't go if you mind about the source of leather! We were greeted by a most helpful man who talked us through this ancient process(in English!) It's a co operatives so we enjoyed buying a few things at th end of the "tour".

You can make just a brief visit here, or you can spend a longer time really exploring and learning about the 'tanning' process. The latter option is not for the 'squeamish' , but very worthwhile,. And, yes, you will need your sprig of mint. No...More

Great experience. Smaller but just as good as Marrakech except no hassle - much like most of this laid back town. Guy who showed us round was interesting. Even when we inevitably got to the small showrooms there was no hard sell. But word of...More
