We stopped here for lunch on a walking holiday with 14 friends. It was FANTASTIC. The owners Linda and Jose with their family were such lovely hosts. The property sits looking out on gorgeous countryside and we were given 5 star treatment with wonderful food, oil tasting and of course fabulous wine. It was also fascinating to hear the history of the winery and how they make wine today. I can highly recommend a visit here and we hope to definitely be back one day.

My favorite Douro winery in my five trips and some of the best port and wine in the region. Family-run, they use the same equipment as owner José’s father and grandfather — proven by names and dates on the machinery and amazing photographs in a small museum inside the winery tasting house. The huge commercial estates may have slick tours and tasting flights, Casa dos Lagares is the real deal of Douro life as a smaller vineyard winemaker who deserves support for his carefully crafted wines and pride in family history.

One of the highlights of our hike in the Duoro Valley was our opportunity to have a picnic lunch in the Public Exhibition (mini-museum) and tasting rooms of Casa dos Lagares - a winery high above the Douro River. The hospitality of the owner and his family as well as the quality of their wines were outstanding. We're so glad we had the chance to experience this authentic family winery that stands out amidst all the commercial wine centers of Porto and the Douro Valley.
