Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

BEautiful spot for a picnic in the middle of the forest, quite close to Santana. May hiking trails start here so highly recommend just to walk around :) The parking fills up quickly in the morning and you can pay for it by cash. There is also a cafe which cells soft drinks, tea and coffee and fantastic cakes. Some toasts are available as well!

Although we didn’t make it to the Caldeirao Verde as it was 7.5km from the start we had an amazing walk along a beautiful levada. With beautiful fauna and wild flora it was a treat to sample the silence and see a wide collection of beautiful birds
It does cost to park here but very inexpensive. Allie at least a full day and bring a picnic to sample at its best. There is a coffee shop at the beginning

You go uphill from Santana for 4 kms and arrive at a large parking place. Next to it is a lovely house where you can zip a coffee and enjoy the nature, flowers and sounds of the birds. It is also the starting point of different walks of different degrees of difficulty, but all rather flat.

I went to Madeira on holiday, went to Quiemada for the levada walk and ended up at about 10000 BC. Joking apart. The levada, forest and natural park are truly stunning. So much so it felt like being back in time.
I believe the area is also Unesco and is easy to see why. Elevated views over the coast and a natural area that is easy to access abd would suit all abilities.
Th levada walk to the waterfall shoukd taje about 4 hours and 30. A head for heights is useful at some points due to elevation.

Liked the view very much, even there was foggy but the nature still is very beautiful to see. Old trees, unseen flowers, waterfalls. We haven’t taken the guide, there is easy to navigate by yourself. If the day is clear, it is much more recommended than it’s foggy!

Initially, I was not very keen when we arrived because I had seen many such forests in India. But once we started... The view, the water falls, the birds, the streams and the vegetation is beyond imagination. We decided to walk all the 11 kms trough the forest and the experience was worth a life time.
I would go back here any day. again ... and again...

We walked 17km of Levadas in Queimadas Forest Park and all in all it was a fantastic expericence. The typical Madeira style house was worth to take a look. It would have been nice to have sort of cafe in the spot.

very small trails going up the mountains through a misty rain forest. Our target is a waterfall and after some hours with our very knowledgeable guide we got there. There are quite a lot of people hiking there and passing someone is difficult - mountain walls on one side, a path of 50 cm and the ravine on the other side, but it's worth it.

this is a unique and stunning landscape to walk through. We walked through it on our Levada walk and drove through it on our jeep safari, so saw it in rain, cloud and sunshine. Each type of weather brought out new variations on its beauty. Well worth a visit and I'm glad its protected as a UNESCO heritage site.
