One of Australia's most unique venues. Converted from historic wartime oil tanks to an arts centre. By day view free art exhibitions and walk the beautiful surrounds. By night be sure to check who is playing in Cairns' best entertainment venue (awarded this title for the last five years and counting).

My hostel concierge told me about The Tanks and I'm so happy I went. It's a multi-complex arts center located inside 3 fuel tanks in Cairns, just adjacent to the entrance to the botanical gardens. One holds a performing arts venue, another a gallery. There...More

Fantastic market on the last Sunday of each month. Music under the trees next to the tanks with a bratwurst, and then a homemade cupcake... A perfect Sunday morning with 3 small children and their $1 books from the little book stall near the cupcakes!

What an interesting arts centre this place is showcasing the works of local artists and sculptors! We weren't sure what to expect due to the name of the centre and not being familiar with the area. We quickly realised how wonderfully clever the idea of...More

Stumbled upon an art gallery at the Tanks - what an absolutely brilliant idea to house art works and concerts at this venue! Loved the whole industrial feel about it and the surrounding grounds of the botanical gardens. A must see.

Next door to the glorious Botanic Gardens, across from the lake parklands, and below the arrow walk tracks up the hill. The vegetation in the area is stunning. The Arts Centre is very clever use of oil storage tanks used in WW2 for art, workshops...More

After visiting the adjacent gardens, we stumbled into the gallery at the Tanks, what a brilliant place !!! The tanks appear to be old water cylinders complete with much of their original structures i.e. valves pipework etc. This enhances the gallery space so much !...More

Glad you stumbled upon us. The Tanks are actually old oil tanks from WW2. They were built hidden behind the hills 5 km from the port to hide from enemy bombing. Luckily there were never any such attacks on Cairns. Now they have been converted...More

A truly great market. Get there early to avoid the heat and the crowds. Purchased some unique gifts and fresh produce. Definatley not a "junky" market
