Worth a visit to find out about North Queensland's original inhabitants

I went to Tjapukai as an add on to a Skyrail tour -- and the only disappointing thing was that I would have LOVED to spend more time there. Plan for a half day. The guides and performances were excellent and the sessions about medicinal plants and boomerangs were excellent. We got to practice throwing spears and boomerangs which was... More

Spent the day with a fantastic guide, we all had a brilliant time and laughed a lot as she showed us how to throw boomerangs and spears. No matter how many questions were asked, all of them were answered with a true feeling of someone wanting to share their knowledge. Such friendly team members throughout the village who work there... I was afraid this place would be cheesey and artificial but I found it to be a true cultural experience. First you have a multi-media presentation with real Aborigines about the creation of the world, then you go to an amphitheater for a song and dance spectacle with audience participation. Next you are led around the property to learn about... More

Second time to Tjapukai but this time we are joining a different session, Tjapukai by Night. and it is AMAZING ! Always love to explore and to learn about the aboriginal culture and the Tjapukai by Night offers a totally different experience than the day show! The night began with facial painting and welcome drinks and snacks. There are about... More

This place was surprisingly sparsely attended on mid-day Saturday when we came here. It is an ambitious development that took a lot of investment but seems to be underutilized. One reason might be the steep price of admission. Although it is not much more than a one-way ride on the Skyrail. We enjoyed learning about the aboriginal tribe of Cairns... More

This is a must for anyone wanting to learn more about a civilization that has been in Australia for thousands of years. It isn't just a great history lesson, the are opportunities to throw spears, boomerangs and didgeridoos. Part of the visit takes place outdoors and part indoors (air conditioned). If you are in the Cairns area this is a... More

We did the Night Fire tour. Fantastically informative and inclusive - dance, singing and story telling. Dinner was very good and everybody seemed to love the entire night. The flaming spears were a great surprise. This is a must do.

This was an incredible night. As we entered our faces were painted then through out the night we found out that it is a way of welcoming us into their tribe. We were there give a glass of champagne and canapés! We then went into the performance room and the Tjapukai people show us dances by the fire. The show... More

This was the best part of a full day out from our base in Port Douglas. 'Down Under' coach arrived on time and took us to the Tjapukai Aboriginal Centre. We were prepared for a fairly cheesy explanation about Aboriginal culture, but were pleasantly surprised by the events that were presented. Our guide started by using some of the local... More

Loved coming to this cultural centre and learning more about the aboriginal people in a fun and interactive way. The highlight was trying spear throwing and using boomerangs which was great fun. And unusually you can take pictures of the aboriginals here too which is nice.

Thank Adam D
