Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stopped at Bonis Ceramics on the 19th and Lynda and I both stopped here on the 20th. It is a family owned and operated business started by the current owner's father. The owner's two sons also work there. They sell and ship Greek pottery all over the world. Yes, it was a commercial stop and we were brought here to buy things but it was also quite interesting.
We found the process of producing, painting and firing fascinating. The owner led a great demonstration of this craft and we were able to see both the carving and painting being done.

We spent an hour looking and shopping at this pottery factory. They are pre painting the pottery before glazing right in front of you. Their artwork makes everything look original. Very large to small vases, bowls, etc.

We stopped here with our Viking tour. It was interesting to see how the clay is worked from start to finish. It's a family business, third generation. The owner is quite a character, a real showman/salesman. I think every one of us bought something!

An incredible presentation about how ceramics are made. It went from a lump of clay to a beautiful finished piece. We could watch each artisan do his/her part of the process of turning clay into a piece of art. Go there if you’re ever on Rhodes.

We stopped at Bonis Ceramics three days before our departure to see if we could buy any souvenirs. Besides buying one we made two by ourselves. They will be painted and delivered to our home within four weeks. Owner is very friendly and talkative. It's a family business and they have been doing it for over 53 years if I am not mistaken. You can see how all the pots are made from the very beginning, though getting into kilns up to paining. Pots are beautiful and different from each other. Thank you for great memories.

Bought a great greedy cup and plate for a reasonable price. Great craftsmanship on display in the workshop. Our tour from the Island Princess stopped here. There is a very nice view from outside the building. You can even get a close up of an olive tree there.

The views were stunning, the family welcoming. This was such a memorable experience for our large family. We wanted to create something to bring home with us and this was exactly the experience for that! Everyone was kind and welcoming. The pottery was gorgeous.

We were greeted by a man who told us this ‘factory’ outlet was his family’s and that he’d been making pottery since he was 12. He seemed very friendly and told us that the prices on display where the ‘retail’ prices that the items were sold for in his 6 other shops. However, as this was the factory, he was going to give us a 25% discount. Wow! Fantastic (we thought). We didn’t buy much as we didn’t have a lot of room in our cases to take stuff home, but we chose 2 small dishes. The small one was €8 and the larger one was €18. The man made a big deal about this 25% discount and told us we were getting a great deal and we wouldn’t find better on the island. So we paid (€19) and left. We went to Lindos the same day and saw the exact same pottery at €3 & €8.50 respectively. I also saw the same stuff on sale at a souvenir shop near my hotel at €2.90 and €6. I returned to the factory shop to explain, politely suggesting that maybe he’d made a ‘mistake’ when he told me that his were the best prices on the island and could he refund me as I wasn’t really very happy. I even showed him some pictures to prove I wasn't just trying to scam him. Now the friendly potter turned nasty and started shouting “who told you that you could come into my shop demanding money?”, “Is this how you behave in your country?”. He was very angry and agitated and told me to get out of his shop. As I left, I swore to myself, which he heard… he came running at me (a 49 year old woman), shouting abuse at me, swearing and calling me obscene names. He said “I’ve got your car registration you… [more swearing and abusive language]” Thankfully I managed to get back to my car before he caught up with me, of God knows what he’d have done. I genuinely was very intimidate by him. This man is ripping off tourists and when challenged, is extremely nasty. Just save yourself the hassle, shop around and get a better deal.

Greek pottery goes back to ancient times as both a commodity and ornamentation. Today, potteries on the island of Rhodes carry on this beautiful art as they create both new and old world designs. This place is no exception when it comes to quality and tradition with their hand crafted products. Our visit was part of the tour, but we were excited to see the pottery up close while learning about its history and symbolism. There was no pressure to purchase anything, but our point of view may be different from others. :-)

Do not purchase from this shop in Rhodes. I purchased a pot in July. It arrived 4 weeks later broken. When I contacted them they said they would make me a new one (should have been my first clue since there were like 50 of them when I was there) and it would ship in 3 weeks. After 5 weeks I contacted them again - they said it would be done the next week and ship then. I inquired for a tracking number the next week and they said it would ship within 3 weeks. Since then I have had no responses to my emails and I have not received my pot. Please do not waste your money at this shop - there are plenty of others in the area - take your chances somewhere else. I am going to dispute this with my cc card company also.
