Nice spot, mostly closed down
Sep. 2021 • Couples
It was a really nice spot with loads of history. Very interesting but sadly most of it is closed due to the pandemic. They’ve adjusted the admission prices to reflect the fact that the full interpretive experience isn’t happening. Loads of buildings locked up, nobody working in the shops, etc. They’re up front about it but just be aware that you’re really just walking around the town in your own at this point. When they’re fully open it would be amazing for anyone interested in the history of the area. We had fun despite the closures.

Nice historic town site
Aug. 2021
Good little historic town to wander through. Lots of good history to read about and many of the buildings you can go in and see how people lived many years ago. One negative when we were there, the blacksmith and tinsmith were just sitting in their buildings not doing anything and not really giving us any history on those buildings, so not sure why there.

Small gift shop and a few prepackaged treats available for purchase.

Great Tour Guide!
Sep. 2021
We enjoyed coming here to see this historic site. Best option to see the grounds is go with the Free Tour, as our Guide was "first class" with the information & attention to detail. COVID friendly & very affordable please support this establishment. Needs a little TLC on the exterior of the buildings!

Underwhelming
Aug. 2020
Family outing , during Covid. Most buildings 90% were not open for viewing, no entertainment, no shows, bakery was limited, not much to see sadly, hope the park can come back to the great place it was after Covid.

Absolutely Great Value
Sep. 2019
It's HUGE - don't expect to cover it properly in 30 minutes, or even an hour - it would be easy to spend most of the day at Fort Steele. There are many great photo opportunities and at the tail end of the season, say late September, not too many people getting in the way. It's absolutely worth the entrance fee and with a working bakery, a chance to refill and reload.

Missing crowds is great but we want to come back during the busy season!
Sep. 2019
Our September visit allowed us to miss the crowds and got us a reduced admission fee. However, we will gladly come back during the busy season to enjoy the staff dressed in period clothing and presenting demonstrations of life back in the 1880s/90s. Even though many of the buildings were closed, we had a great visit that kept us interested for almost two hours. If you come during the summer, you better plan on four hours if you want to see everyone. Their exhibits include information about the people who were stationed there. If you’re a history buff, you will like Fort Steele! Another benefit to being there without the crowds - we got a private tour of the bakery! You definitely should stop there on your visit! Fort Steele Heritage Town is a fascinating place!

September visit to Fort Steele
Sep. 2019
We decided to go to this historic site, not realizing that the end of the season significantly impacted the number of buildings we could access. The nice thing was the admission fee was significantly lowered and there was a highlight by being able to access the museum which was quite interesting with all of its displays and the tour shed light on some of our Western Canada history. For the foodies interested, the bakery was open too. They offered a tour of how the breads were baked, what happened when the harvest was brought in and how it was turned into flour, I can say the coffee break and fresh cinnamon buns made the trip worth the while.

I do recommend you do this trip and site visit during their peak season hours in June July and august to get the full benefit of the site. In addition to more buildings being accessible, there will be hosts in appropriate period dress available to answer questions, a horse drawn wagon to go on a tour with, getting a chance to see a working blacksmith shop and some demonstrations of early pioneer farming practices.

This shortened visit has got us interested enough to still go back next summer and see the full show!

unbelievable original abandoned mining town
Sep. 2019
great attraction not to be missed as an old mining town unravels before your eyes
Chinese laundry, hotel and theatre all stand on a series of original streets with livery stable and wagon stores there. An old railway and working loco complete this site with museum exhibits. and gold panning for the youngsters. You will be amazed
