As promised. 2 hr boat ride, fed a crocodile, saw plenty of birds and most importantly pink flamingos. Pink lake isn’t actually very pink on a cloudy day. If you can choose your day, it’d have been better on a sunny day.

We visited Rio Lagartos as a day trip from Valladolid. It cost us 2000 mexican peso per person but included stops at Las Colorados (Which I personally didn’t rate) and a beach on the way back. I think a day tour is the best way to visit this area as the public transport connections are a little bit tedious.

Our tour included a 2 hour boat ride to see the rich offerings in the Reserva de la Biosfera Ria Lagartos. We did this in August and can confirm there is still a healthy population of pink flamingoes present. We also enjoyed viewing various bird life. The boat tours also offer the opportunity for a ‘Mayan mudbath’. This is essentially an activity in which one is able to cover their body in mud. The boat will stop at a white mud type beach initially and then at another some 30 minutes later to allow you to wash it off. Wasn’t for me but my wife enjoyed it.

Overall we enjoyed our visit here and would recommend this activity to others, particularly due to its uniqueness.

We really loved the experience. It was even better because we chose an amazing guide (William Cantó- his phone is found easily online). His English is very good and he explained everything with a lot of passion and was very profesional. He is actually a biologist. We saw flamingos, lots of birds and even crocodiles. We ended the tour in a beautiful beach and we were completely covered in mud. William took a lot of beautiful pictures of us too. Don’t miss the chance to do this tour!

It is one of a kind. Was in my bucket list for a long time and we just made it happen. It is really PINK and beautiful. It is wow. Can’t believe your eyes. They just open a new station few months for tourist to take a tour by tour truck. Drive straight into the place as google map. We bought the Safari tour. They had discount for us in Feb which $25. Regular $50. They took you around and stop for you to take pictures. One lake is less pink you can get down close to photograph. The pinkest one was last to stop and yeah it is awesome. Drawback is that you had to drive far. We drove from Tulum 3 hours. I highly recommend it. Amazing place

To be fair, I never actually went into the park, so perhaps this is the wrong place for these comments. During the drive up we encountered vultures, floods and swarms of locusts. The surrounding area and town are dismal and sinister. I've travelled budget all over the world, so tend not to be picky. We went to the Adventure tour place everyone suggests and they were unfriendly and it was so dodgy I was uncomfortable leaving our car for the duration of a tour. Highly suggest a tour group rather than doing it on your own.

We took a private tour on a small boat with an experienced local guide, Don Pedro. The tour was 4 hours long. He stopped several times on the way to see the flamingos. We saw crocodiles, different kinds of native birds and plants. Then the boar stopped at a considerable distance to see the flamingos. After that, the guide took us to the place where the Golf of Mexico ends and the Caribbean Sea starts, beautiful place. We also had the opportunity to get off the boat on two occasions. First, to cover body with mud from a small beach… only one friend dis it and she didn’t like it much. Then guide took us to a ni e small beach where my friend had a chance to rinse the mud (sorry, this sounds funny!) and the rest of us just jumo in the water to enjoy. Water so clear and shallow beach but with strong currents. Beautiful tour, no special strength or efforts required, ok for all ages.

It’s a beautiful area. Great for bird watching. Boat tour to pink sea to see flamingos. Nesting island for birds. Rio Lagartos is quaint fishing town. No bank. Bring small denominations of pesos. Credit cards at hotels and restaurants usually. Safe!

We booked a day trip from Cancun. I'm sorry I didn't keep track of the company as it wasn't 1 of the main companies. But they were very good. We stopped at a Rancho for a breakfast. Then to Los Colorados to see the salt operation and some Flamingos at quite a distance. Then on to Rio Lagarto where we had a boat ride to see Flamingos closer. Even tho it wasn't the right time of the year, we did see several groups. Great trip over all.

We had a nice relaxing time walking around Ria Lagartos and a boat ride on the biosphere reserve’s waters. During our sightseeing tour, we also visited a small fishing village and saw lots of flamingos along the estuary. This park is a breeding ground of many flamingos.
