Alberth stopped our car as we rolled into Rio Lagartos. He was a wonderful guide for our 2 hour tour showing us many species of birds including the flamingos. He fed the crocodiles from the side of the boat. One of them was over 3 meters long! We saw las Colorados and the salt flats as well. This was a... More

Feb 1. We stayed a night at Villa de Pescadores (lovely hotel right on the water) when by 6am there was a man waiting right on the dock directly in front of the hotel. His name was Santiago. He took us for a 3 hour ride you can do all the activities he will take you to the clay, flamingos,... More

Around two hours from playa del carmen this delightful natural wonder was a delight after the hustle and bustle of the major yucatan sights. Most tours involve a stop to see the natural breeding ground of the pink flamingoes followed by a 2 hr boat trip around the mangrove swamps for a bit of wildlife spotting, which varied from alligators... A relaxing & enthralling midday trip into the park. We spoke to several boat skippers before choosing which boat to ride in. They are all pretty much the same; had a great skipper called Jose. Despite taking the trip at 12:30, we still got to see plenty of wildlife, with lots of commentary from Jose and his eagle-eye, as well... More

Lots of birds to see. The trip take almost 3 hours. Bring a good camera, a hat and sun block. You will surprised at what you see and what the guide will point out.

Stay in valladolid, and make the drive out to the pink lake in Las coloradas. It's about a 2.5 hour drive each way but it was one of the highlights of our time in the yucatan. When u spot the pink water from afar it just takes your breath away. A few things to note: - I hear the lake... More

I had visited rio lagartos for a while and everytime I go back I am as amazed as the first time. I love the nature and the solitude of this place still without big crowds. I rented a boat (700 +100 tips) I think prices are higher than ever, someone try to sell me the boat tour for 1200 pesos... More

We just went for 1 night to Rio Lagartos and it was perfect. We had time to walk through the small village, had great dinner at Restaurant El Perico Marinero and an amazing 3 hour private boat tour in the early morning with Manuel, who made the trip super special. He brought fish to attract birds, tried hard to find... More
