About
The pink lakes of Las Coloradas are one of Mexico's most mesmerizing sights, known for their bubblegum-pink waters, soft white sands, and powder blue skies. The pink color is caused by the high salinity of the salt flats and the presence of microorganisms. Visit in the early afternoon when the lakes are the most vibrant under the strong midday sun. The best way to visit this remote lagoon is on a full-day tour from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Riviera Maya. These tours typically include the Ria Lagartos nature reserve, where you can spot flamingos, crocodiles, and other wildlife in its wetlands. – Tripadvisor

    Worth it!
We saw this place from photos online and stopped by to check it out on our way through Mexico. When you are first driving into the town, there are people that will try to stop you and sell you a tour. I'm not sure if they were associated with Las Coloradas but it seemed a little sketchy. We drove straight to the tourist center and bought a tour directly from the counter. They offered tours with an English and Spanish guide, but you need a guide to enter. Erica was our tour guide and she was wonderful. She taught us all about the company that makes the salt, and how it is processed. It was all very interesting. She mentioned that YOU CANNOT SWIM in the salt lakes because it is used for human consumption and it is unsanitary. People used to take pictures of themselves in the lakes to post online, but you cannot do that anymore. She also said the best time to see the pink color is April or December. We went in January and it was still very pink. Hurricane season (June-November) is not a time to visit because all the rain messes with the salinity levels, and the color is not as radiant. Our walking tour took us about an hour and it was about $380 MXN ($22 USD) per person. We think that it was worth it. We even stopped by the gift shop after to buy some salt produced by the pink lake ($2 USD) Thank you to Erica and everyone at Las Coloradas for this experience!

    Enchanting pink Paradise
It looked so enchanting and the hues of pink just melts our hearts. We’ve never seen anything like this before and it was such an incredible feeling to be there, to just admire the beauty and the serenity. We did a day trip from Cancun Wear comfy clothes/ shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. We hope you enjoy visiting as much as we did

Las Coloradas -- A Truly Magical Place!
This place is Amazing. We took this tour with Sol Turquesa in Merida. We visited several places in addition to Las Coloradas. Our guide, Eduardo, was wonderful! He explained everything and how the salt is harvested from the ponds. The pink water is so fascinating and caused by several things, one being the flamingos and their diet of brine shrimp and sea monkeys! Eduardo took amazing photos for us. This will definitely be a place and trip we will never forget! ❤️

    Pink but pricy.
The visit to Las Coloradas was a good experience, but not something fascinating. The access price to the site can be considered high, without a doubt the spectacle of the colors of the pools and their contrast with the blue of the sky and the sea is pleasant. The guides do a good job and are sufficiently informed to provide adequate information. We had the bad fortune of visiting the place when there was an electrical failure in its surroundings, reason why the use of the toilets was not allowed (as we were informed), curiously taking into account the high price to enter the site, no action was taken to provide the user with the necessary services, which includes the cost of the entrance. Personally, I consider this to be a deficiency of the management and customer service, it should be a priority to be able to continue offering the service of access to the toilets for visitors who in their great majority travel for at least an hour to the site. If the lack of electricity prevents the proper use of the toilets, actions could be implemented to alleviate the problem, such as perhaps using battery-powered lighting or the presence of containers and/or buckets with water for the correct use and hygiene of the bathrooms. Telling the visitor that the toilets cannot be used and that they can pay for the use of toilets in a nearby place is not really the best, perhaps even the action could be taken by the operator of the site to go to the nearby site that has toilets so that at Las Coloradas' expense the visitor could use the toilet services. The lack of initiative of the staff, but especially of the management, leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the visitor, especially taking into account that children and older adults attend the site. A greater and better culture of customer service will undoubtedly improve the reputation of the place.

Lady at the front asked very kindly where we were visiting from. We answered Chicago. The couple right behind us said Cancun. Right away her voice tone changed and she said to them “it is 100 pesos, but for you (meaning us) it will be 155 each”. When we asked why, she said, because you don’t live here. No oficial prices are displayed and the tour guide was waiting for us, so we did pay. The tour was a very simple explanation, not very clear, of the place. Most of the process had to be visualized in our imagination, no posters, no videos, no explanation of how the money payed is used, no nothing. I feel like I payed a lot for nothing.
The worse part was when I removed my bracelet, only to find out they the official price was only 37 pesos. What?????
Don’t waste your money! Make sure you know the right price, check your bracelet first, or just don’t go. It is a nice place to see... for free!

This used to be a place where you could stop by, pay a local guide a few pesos for a quick tour, take some interesting photos, and patronize the local restaurants and shops. Now the owners of this salt factory are big into the business of cheating tourists and locals alike. They are busy blocking roads, constructing walls/dunes, and draining the characteristic pink salt lagoons in public view so they can charge a minimum of $600 MX ($30 US) for the most basic, 20 minute walk where you can take a few lackluster photos. They upsell hard and offer "safaris" which is an open air bus ride to see nothing of interest. For charging outrageous prices for being 3 hours from Cancun, they offer little in the way of facilities. For example, when we were there they didn't have running water in their bathrooms. They utilize guides from outside the local area that they pay peanuts, while not allowing locals to profit off of even the small amount of tourism they receive. We went there with a private guide that we spent over two weeks with while visiting several cities in the Yucatan. He said he would no longer be bringing clients to this attraction because the owners have basically ruined it and turned it into a joke. Avoid this, it just not worth it even if you are staying closer in Mérida or Valladolid. Coming all the way here from Cancun or Playa del Carmen for the day is a horrible idea. As an alternative, go to Rio Lagartos. There are inexpensive boat ride tours available that don't financially screw tourists and actually employ locals - plus you will see beautiful mangroves and wildlife.

The place is not near Cancun or Tulum or any of these touristic places. It is located in Yucatán State. We stayed at a town 1.5 hours away and drove there in the morning to visit the place, the roads are in great shape and directional signs on the roads are clear. We have a tour guide who clearly explained what the saline production company does and the effect of the color on the water. They have been environmentally extracted sat for hundreds of years. The “park/attraction “ is protected, so you can only be inside for 30 minutes. The day was hot and that was enough time for us to take a bunch of photos and learn about the place. It is not a beach, no restaurants, bars, shops… you go there to take photos of the beautiful pink waters and lear a out salt extraction. I am glad we went!

The only redeeming thing about this tourist attraction is that it affords the customer an opportunity to take a couple of unique/interesting photos for their facebook/instagram reels. Outside of this it is a total rip of and tourist trap.

Because its only 24km (Half an hours drive) from Rio Lagartos we did it as the second leg of a day tour to this area. We were attracted by the various photos displayed in the numerous tour shops of merida/Valladolid. The lakes are actually owned by a salt company and you will pass by their factory on the way to the attraction. Upon entering the car park you will notice one lake which displays a tinge of pink, nothing like what is demonstrated in the promotional photos.

We paid our admission fee, expecting it to be perhaps 100 mexican peso and afford a deeper look into this area (which contains 24 lakes) presumably to see more impressive/actually red lakes. Much to our surprise to enter the attraction you need to pay a minimum of 300 mexican peso (for a Spanish guide) or 330 (for an english guide). You cannot do it without a guide. To this day I’m still not sure what the purpose of this guide was. I assume its to justify the ridiculous entry fee. The guide takes you for a walk totalling about 400m return where you go along one of the edges of the salt lake that you just saw from the car park. You have a short stop at a pile of salt and yutican sign to take pictures before returning to the entrance gate. I think the whole thing took perhaps 20-30 minutes.

Overall I felt underwhelmed by this attraction. It’s clear its been established to milk as much money from tourists as possible. Wouldn’t recommend. If you really want to see it go to the car park, take a few pictures and move on. Honestly the view is much the same.

The company built a nice looking visitor center (ticket office + shop + lookout tower) and now charges 300 pesos per person just for entry. But you can pay also 890 pesos for a supposed safari. In my personal opinion they just built a monument of human greed. There are guys with motorcycles who try to make sure that you can't capture a nice shot from the outside.
I dont't understand the pricing. Afterall this is not some old ruin or a natural park, it is literally a "salt mine". It is not a beach, dont't believe pictures of people standing in the pink water, you are not allowed to touch it.

I surely will not support a company like this and in my opinion noone should. This is not a one in a lifetime oportunity and you can easily miss it.
Rio Lagartos on the other hand is a really authentic, less touristy place where you can do boat tours in the natural park or just chill. I just hope this companys greed does not backfire on this lovely town.

Very rare sight of a pink lake! Would recommend going in afternoon (12 PM) to see the pink shade if you go earlier or late will see it as orange. I would not recommend spending money to walk towards the las colorados board or pay the local guides (they don't know anything) for a private tour. It's all a scam. You can get good pics right before the information center. So, it's not worth paying for it!

I rated las coloradas with 3 stars due to the lack of information provided.
The main issue was, it was not pink...
it was a Lavender shade, because of 1 main reason: the hurricane in October destroyed all the lakes and the Salt company had to rebuild them again. It’s only been 3 weeks since they restructured the lakes and it takes about 6 months to reach the deepest pink shade we were expecting.
To gain the most from this experience, I recommend that you visit during its peek time which will be MAY 2021.
If you decide to go for it now be aware that there is some flooding on the road leading to las coloradas, currently is approximately 15 cm in depth. We were in a Sentra 2019 and we felt that any smaller car would have struggled with this hazard.

I wanted to experience this hyped up pink beach, but in reality it felt kind of scammish to me. The tour was priced at $119 and we purchased it at the Krystal Resort. I bit overpriced since we found outthat another couple purchased the same tour for halfthe price.
The first part of the tour we were taken to the Kikil Cenotes and the water was so dirty that no one went in it, the next part ofthe tour we went to Las Coloradas, got a tour guide that took us to the entrance and told us how the salt mine and bacteria in the water makes it change colors. Then the driver asked if we wanted to take some pictures but at that time all they'd shown is was a trench with the colored water. When we inquired about the beach they told us it was a lagoon, but they had no intentions of taking us to see it because the entrance fee was $15 each. I really believe that had we not spoken upthat they would've taken our pictures by that trench and then taken us on the last leg ofthe tour.
The water was not as pink as some of the pictures on the internet but it was still a sight to see.
**Note** This is not a beach, it's a lagoon and you cannot enter the water because apparently it's bad for your skin.

We did a tour of rio lagartos & las coloradas.. we were a little upset because once we got there from Tulum (where we stayed) it was a 3hr drive and the guide told us the lake was not pink during this time.
We insisted to go because we looked it up and this lake is supposed to be pink every day out of the year. Once we got there we only saw a orange tint somewhat pink but not really lake. Not sure if it’s bc of the area he took us too.. but very disappointed.
Not worth the $2,000 MXN boat ride and the $320 USD taxi ride.
