This place seems to be confused with the Maple corridor. This is a good 15 mins or so walk from the final stop on the red bus line along a road with no footpath most of the way. When I got there, there was heaps of photographers all lining up to get their shot and quite a bit of traffic so I found it difficult to get “the shot”. Still enjoyed the lovely autumn colours on display though...

Many people mistake this place for the Momiji Corridor. Momiji Tunnel is next to the small river and opposite the Art & Music Museum. During the peak autumn, I visited Kawaguchiko, and there was a lot of beautiful foliage in red and orange colors. I enjoyed the strolled along the tunnel with the majestic view of Mount Fuji. No one can get bored with the view. There is one restaurant (I forgot the name) where you can enjoy your food and drinks while enjoying Mount Fuji. It's worth visiting this place, where you can spend an hour in this area. If you are heading to Funatsu, Momiji Tunnel is on left side while the Momiji Corridor on right side.

The Momiji tunnel is not a big place nor is it in itself full of wonderful things - it just provides a great view with perfect photo ops of Fuji-san.
Take the bus to stop #22 and walk about 25 minutes. We took at lot of photos along the way and it took us about that long. There’s not that much to see but there were a few great stopping points.
The words Momiji Tunnel appear on the bus route map along with a red maple at a curve in the road which goes from bus stop 22 to the south west. This is not a marked place, you will know you are there when you see loads of photographers and tripods. Before reaching this point there was another jog in the road with an abandoned house at the top of a rise of land - good photos could be taken from here as well.
You will probably spend an hour or more shooting the mountain perfectly framed by maple leaves. Look where others who arrived before you have set up tripods - they know the best spots.
Walk back to bus stop 22 to catch the bus to return. We then got off at the maple corridor - bus stop 19 - for the maple festival, but it was nothing special. The illumination was nothing spectacular either; it was just a pleasant place to wander whilst awaiting the next bus. Lots of booths were set up selling food and souvenirs.

Top Tips: Check out the Autumn colours calendar before coming to ensure that you get to see the colours in its full glory. Go during the late afternoon and stay around until evening to get both views (under sunlight and under the illumination). Prepare for it to be crowded
Managed to catch the Momiji (Japanese Maple) in the Autumn colours and it was really a sight to behold. The added illumination in the evenings along with the festival atmosphere made it a really enjoyable experience.
Have some food and drinks, or enjoy a spot of shopping in the nearby festival stalls after you've taken enough photos!
However, do expect it to be crowded and that detracts from the magic and experience.
Definitely worth a visit.

During autumn, there is a momiji festival that is held in the area. Plenty of people and food at the festival grounds. Not sure if it was the cold weather couple with piping hot food but the food was really good. Best potato croquette I've ever tasted.
The highlight of course is the lighted up walkways with plenty of trees alongside a creek dyed in all their various autumn colours. Really nice to take a nice slow stroll around the maple corridor.
Be aware however the fujikyu buses in the area don't run till late therefore if you plan to take your time and enjoy, you might have to end up walking back like us. The occasional taxi is available but with the cold weather, a nice long stroll back to Kawaguchiko ryokans is also very doable and romantic.

Not a far walk (15 mins) from the last stop of the Red bus. Well worth it if you are lucky with weather!

Pull car in. Park for free. Get out. Take iconic photo of Mt Fuji. Get back in car. Leave. All done in 10 mins. Worth it.

We rented bikes from across the lake and rode over. There was also an autumn festival happening, so it was a lovely sight.

Worth a visit in autumn although it can be quite crowded. Although packed, there is still space for you to take beautiful photos. Reach here by taking the red line and get down at bus stop 16.

I stopped by because I was at the nearby art museum. I imagine in autumn this spot is gorgeous however it’s pretty normal off-season. You can get endless pictures of the mountain and lake lots of places, don’t feel like you must stop here.

Hello, are the Momiji Tunnel and the Maple Corridor the same thing? If so is it worth visiting assuming it will be a whole day trip from Tokyo? Thanks

Hi there, I believe those are the same. It's quite a trek on the train. There was a group in front of us on the train that were only visiting Kawaguchiko for the day, and Mt. Fuji wasn't even visible that day. I would recommend making it at least an overnight trip (Fujisan is most visible in the morning).
