It is a good place for picnics in winter. Though this place does not have much rides and other attractions but it is very well decorated with flowers. It also offers boating.

One of the sprawling places of Burnpur, just next to Asansol city. It gets very crowdy during festivals and is a nice picnic spot for families and Friends.

The Park was renamed as Nehru Park on the occasion of Birth Centenary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1989 from Riverside Park. However, all the nature loving citizens of Durgapur-Raniganj-Asansol-Burnpur-Barakar industrial belt the Park fondly refer it as Lahmeyer Park after its creator Late F.W.A. Lahmeyer.
F.W.A Lahmeyer was a German national who came to Burnpur in 1950 to join erstwhile The Indian Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. as Chief Engineer prior to 1953 Expansion Project when Sir Biren Mukherjee was its Managing Director.
With successful commissioning of modernized IISCO Plant, the then management took upon many a social development work in and around Burnpur.
Lahmeyer himself was a great nature lover, devout follower of western classical music besides being an outstanding technocrat.
He conceived the idea of building a park having absolutely natural setting. He chose a stretch of land on the bank of river Damodar. With meticulous planing and clear conception he got the landscaping done by using debris from the plant . His immaculate conception gradually transformed the bare stretch of land into a piece of green oasis complete with terraced flower beds, tranquil waterfalls, green pasture and luxurious trees like Chir, Pine, Teak etc. with indigenous varieties of plants. The Park was named Riverside Park. But the people at large spontaneously and affectionately named it Lahmeyer Park in admiration to the gentleman.
The Park is a paradise for Botany Students and Bird Watchers. Birds like Golden Oriole, Black hooded Oriole, Green Pigeon, WireTail Swallow, Owls, varieties of Wood Peckers, Parakeets etc. can be seen.
Scenic beauty and fabulous ambience soothe your mind. Presently, there are facilities of a Conference Hall, Restaurant, Boating and of course Trekking and also Entertainment Park for children with gaming facility. Picnic spots are available during winter season.
Scene of a setting Sun over River Damodar is a spectacle to remember.
Best time to visit October to March.

For those who have seen the beauty of Lahmeyer's Park today's Nehru Park is a let down. A place for evening walks has now turned into a commercial centre with picnic areas being let out. There is boating and a restaurant as well as a children's play area. There are couples in every book and corner very often an eye sore. Not really a very pleasant sight unless you keep near the entrance where the fountain is.

We visited for Picnic last January. Though I have been visiting for years but never thought of posting a review. This is a good place for a family picnic or outing. At times due to several problems it gets affected but the rhythm gets back during the winters. Having a personal conveyance is intelligent.
