This is one of the sightseeing place sin Mahabalipuram but the only one which can be skipped. It has an entry and parking fee but personally I did not feel it quite worth a visit. There was a huge tilted rock along with a cave which looked nothing more beautiful than the other monuments in Mahabalipuram. There is also a beach but it is quite dirty when I went there.

We visited all the important monuments and UNESCO World Heritage sites at Mahabalipuram for 3 days.
During our last day we went to see Tiger Cave. It is about 5km away (towards Chennai)from the actual Mahabalipuram old town.....
As we stayed at Ideal Beach Resort , this cave is very near to the resort (just about 1km , but in opposite direction to Shore Temple , close to ECR).
We completed our lunch and reached the Tiger Cave by a tuk tuk (which are available from the outside resort gate) ....
The tuk tuk fellow charged us Rs.200/- (to & fro) for 2 hours visit to the Tiger Cave.... but you need to burgain the fare before you start.
Once entered through the gate, after few minutes of walking we located the cave on the right side of the complex.
The Tiger Caves is a part of ASI (Archeological Survey of India) protected monuments and the entire area is maintained neatly with proper parking space and lush green lawn & large trees for visitors.
The Tiger Cave is neither a true cave nor any tiger lives here !
It is actually a rock - cut cave type structure believe to have been constructed in 7 - 8 century by Pallavas like other other similar monuments in Mahabalipuram.
A single large rock carved with 11 tiger heads around outside of the cave .....
One can see the carvings on the rock which looks like a tiger (similar to a mythological animal called "Yeli").
This place was assumed to be a gathering spot for the Pallava king to address his people.
Just amaizing !!
There is also an inclined rock near the cave which is a fabulous thing to watch .
You can also see lots of unfinished rocks laying around .... how they came here and for what ..... all unknown .....
There is also a small rock - cut Shiva temple (popularly known a Muruga Temple) at the left corner of the complex.
A passage after the Tiger Cave leads to a small peaceful beach (as an extension of Mahabalipuram beach) .....
The entire complex perhaps a popular picnic spot among locals.
You will get more crowds during holidays and weekends .
Entry fees :
No entry fees required ; however there is a small parking fees required for vehicles (not more than Rs.10/-) .
How to reach :
From the main road (ECR), exactly 5km before Mahabalipuram town (from Chennai), you need to take left and go 100 meters forward to reach the gate of the complex for Tiger Cave.
There are small boards on the left side, but you can miss them.
In case you cross the location, you'll see Ideal Beach Resort main gate after the Tiger Cave.
Just take a U - turn from there and come back to the Tiger Cave complex gate.
Travel tips :
- There are no restaurants and wash room available near Tiger Cave . So plan you trip accordingly.
- However, few small stalls available outside the complex gate, offering cold drinks, coconut water etc.
- Carry sufficient drinking water with you.
- Carry hat, sunscreen & goggles.
Over-all, a wonderful spot for history & sculpture lovers and can also enjoy a half day picnic with calm & cool atmosphere.

The Tiger Caves is a monument located on the way to Mahabalipuram from Chennai. The architecture / carvings are great for photography, but the place is crawling with couples wanting some privacy. One gets uncomfortable when you are with family, as you cannot anticipate where the next intimate couple is tucked away ....

The Tiger's cave is located enroute to Mahabalipuram. The Structures here are not comparable to those at Mahabalipuram in scope and artistic details, nevertheless, this is a good place to visit. The structures are well maintained and are housed within an enclosure. The attraction provides good photo opportunity. The place is serene and quiet, with ample parking place.

Visited in Dec 14, its located on the way to Mahabalipuram.
A good and well maintained garden is there along with monuments. Nice place to relax for some time and good attraction place after Crocodile Bank.
Beach is also back side of this place but not cleaned, it is recommended not to waste time to walk and go to this beach; better to go Shorebeach temple beach directly.

This place is a must for every tourist on the ECR Mahabs circuit and has ample photo opportunities. The historical importance of this place is hard to ignore.

My best mates and I went on a road trip recently. One of the places we stopped by was Tiger's Cave. Though having born and bred in Chennai, I never visited this place before despite knowing it exists. From the name of this place, I was excited and was gearing up to see a cave and tigers. Surprisingly, even my friends did not know what was in store for all of us. We parked our car, purchased a ticket and gradually walked through the entrance.
Now, we were extremely excited. We were planning on how to take pictures with the tiger, how close should we stand near the Tiger, what should we do once we see the cat et al. Believe me, we saw a huge stone on the right as we entered. Now, we got even more excited. I was telling my friends "wow, we got a huge stone here, may be that is the cave, and there is a tiger or two in there." I was even jumping and behaving like Aaron (the character) in the movie "Hangover". As we were getting closer to the stone, we were waiting to go inside the cave.
When we reached the stone, the biggest shock came to us. There was no CAVE, there was no TIGER. The so called TIGER was a goddamn STONE. We literally fainted. Then, in no time, we started laughing like never before. We were literally ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing). We started cursing each other for choosing to stop by by this place.
However, having stopped by, we wanted to do something. So, we ended up going to the sea and getting our legs dirty. At the end, we laughed a lot and that made us happy and set a start to our ongoing journey.

If you have a car, it is well worth the 10 minutes drive from Mahabalipuram.
There are 2 caves with very distinctive tiger carvings, situated within a small park next to the ocean.

On the ECR road after muttukadu and crocodile bank. This place has nothing other than rocks like tiger which comes good in photo. There is a beach in the backyard which is small in size and crowd, hence useful for someone look for privacy. Beware people drinking liquor also roaming around the place.

Recently I visited Tigers cave with my friends which is located near patipulam arasamaram-ECR.
We have huge tiger like sculpture made in rocks and a small rock cut shiva temple is also present.The place is very calm and we have nearby beach to enjoy.Must visit place when you are on the way to mahabalipuram.

Is this place opens coming Thursday, because of lot of tourist place closed due to covid pandamic., hence I rise the question before we reaching the place.
